The Innocence of Truth
If you stop and think about the simple years
When life was easier and we were younger
When smiles seemed to replace the tears
Seems as though we were filled with wonder
Was it pure innocence or the magic of film
That captivated our spirits and touched our souls
Angels such as Walt Disney and Hayley Mills
Gave us hope and inspired more than they know
Disney and Mills brought hope and so much joy
They inspired us to simply embrace our youth
Now as the world struggles with every story
Disney and Mills gave us the innocence of truth
As we age we're not sure where or who we are
Sometimes life isn't easy and years go too fast
We need to embrace the child in each of our hearts
And enjoy every moment before it's in the past
If you stop and think about the years gone by
The one thing you'll find is a hero and clearly see
It was that inspiration that helped you to fly
Much like the Disney movies starring Hayley
"Thank you Walt Disney and Hayley Mills for
The Innocence of Truth"
by Angela Byrd 2006
A big thank you to Angela Byrd for the kind words.
I was lucky enough to play the part of Pollyanna in Walt Disney's film and it has always been one of my favourite roles. I was thirteen years old at the time and the experience made a considerable impresion on me.
Pollyanna's philosophy has always stuck in my memory and there have been many times when I've played "The Glad Game", and found that it works. As Pollyanna said, quoting Abraham Lincoln, "When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will." Equally so, when you look for the good in mankind...
~By Hayley Mills~
Hayley Catherine Rose Vivien Mills was born to actor John Mills and playwright Mary Hayley Bell on April 18, 1946, in London, England. She is the sister of actress Juliet Mills and Jonathan Mills. She has the perfect pedigree for stardom. Her independent spirit and mischievous charm have enchanted audiences around the world.
She was noticed playing at her parent's home in 1958 by director J. Lee Thompson, who immediately cast her opposite her father in the thriller "Tiger Bay" (1959). Her debut performance turned heads around the world, from Germany, where she won an award at the Berlin Film Festival to Hollywood.
Walt Disney's wife saw Hayley's performance in "Tiger Bay" and immediately fell in love with her. Well, the end result was that Walt Disney came knocking at her door. He signed her to a five-year contract. Hayley made her American film debut in "Pollyanna" (1960). She won critical raves, box-office success, and a special Juvenile Academy Award.
Hayley's second Disney film, "The Parent Trap" (1961), in which she played twins, was even more popular. She continued to appear in routine Disney films like "In Search of the Castaways" (1962) and "Summer Magic" (1963), as well as films outside the studio like "Whistle Down the Wind" (1961), and "The Chalk Garden" (1964), again co-starring with her father. Walt Disney gave her a somewhat more adult role in the mystery film "The Moon-Spinners" (1964) and after filming "That Darn Cat!" (1965), she left Walt Disney Studio.
Hayley's first post-Disney film "The Trouble with Angels" (1966) was a big success. She starred in the series "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" (1987), later re-titled "Saved by the Bell" (1989). She has continued acting in movies, TV and the theater.
