About Me

Home | Mail | Blog | Forum | Groups | Dragon Collective | Earthdoctor Dragon Collective page

I'm still having a lot of fun DJing, much of it in Wales, after more years than I care to remember.

Formerly part of Dr. Funkenstein (with DJs Gini and Den, with whom I still regularly play), I play throughout the UK, with a range of styles - predominantly dub, global beats, old & new funky beats, funky electro / techno and an eclectic selection of chilled-out tracks.

I co-founded the Dragon Collective, a voluntary organisation based in mid-Wales, with contemporary 'pop' artist Brian Jones in 1996. We are interested in all aspects of the music scene and related Visual & Performance Arts, predominantly, though not exclusively, in Wales.
Festival sets - resident DJ in Greenpeace's Cafe Tango at Glastonbury for several years, and also in the Gaiaspace Dome, Glade Stage and Dance Tent backstage; Artists / Crew Bar and Hospitality Tent at WOMAD; Shambala (3 years); The Workhouse; Small Nations; Timeless; Godiva; Llangollen Fringe (3 years); Sheep Music; Megadog Beach Festival; Eclipse Festival on The Lizard.
Club sets - Return To The Source; Pendragon; Global Head Funk (@ Herbal); JuJu and Sundaze in Sheffield; Disoriental in Bradford; Band On The Wall in Manchester; Toucan Club, Clwb Ifor Bach, The Point and The Coal Exchange in Cardiff; Hendre Hall near Bangor; Thekla and Fiddlers in Bristol and many other venues. I regularly play at underground parties throughout Wales and the Borders.
Many nights in Aberystwyth since the early 1990s, at Po Na Na, The Bay, Arts Centre and the Students Union. Promoted dub nights for 2 years in the town.
Promoted and DJed at Dragon Collective and Module 8 club nights in Mid and South Wales, featuring such acts as Zion Train, Dreadzone, Momo, Kamel Nitrate, Future Loop Foundation, Emperor Sly, LTJ Bukem, Timeshard, Ozric Tentacles, Mandragora, Eat Static, Dubmerge, The Baghdaddies, Headmix, Elephant Talk, Baka Beyond, Transglobal Underground and Joi.
I regularly supported Zion Train for several years on UK club and festival dates, and also played at their last two ‘Bass Odyssey’ nights at The Rocket in London and their stage at Frome Festival. For many years I also did the international club and radio promotion for their label Universal Egg.
I have supported many live roots / world music bands such as Transglobal Underground, Oojami, Kamel Nitrate, Headmix, The Baghdaddies, Sansaar, Dr. Didg, Kangaroo Moon, The Rythmites, King Masco, Baka Beyond, Rico Rodriguez, Edward II, Tragik Roundabout, Geno Washington, Big Joe Turner, Santana Mongoley & Les Zaza, Pressgang, Balfa Toujours, La Cucina, Hassan Erraji & Arabesque, Edward II, The Mighty Diamonds and Back To Base.
I used to do a monthly global beats / dub / electronica guest spot on Radio Ceredigion (based in Aberystwyth) and have occasional featured mixes on Radio Maldwyn (based in Newtown, Powys). I have had a 90 min. radio show broadcast by Belgrade Yard Sound System in Zagreb and Belgrade.
I distribute a fortnightly playlist to all the main UK dance magazines, and my playlist has featured in many magazines.

I'd like to meet:

In the interests of maintaining and organic, wholemeal, non-sexist site, I will say no more!

The FreeRotation Audio-Visual festival is taking place again in 2008 on the weekend of 8 - 10 August, in the same wonderful venue, Baskerville Hall, near Hay on Wye. Many of the favourites from last year will be playing again, plus many new faces too - see the website for details.

The first Freerotation Electronic Audio Visual Arts Festival, took place on the weekend of 7 - 9 September 2007, bringing together cutting-edge international electronic musicians and visual artists from many genres, for a weekend long feast of dancing, networking and relaxing. I hosted the chill-out room, Mindtours the dance room, and there was loads of top-quality music in each, both live and DJ - including Move D, Shackleton, DJ Mitch, Steevio & Suzybee, Earthdoctor, Jackmate aka SoulPhiction, Portable aka Bodycode, Gaetano Parisio and Redshape. See the FreeRotation website for the full line-up.

Here's a video by VJ Aero, who took part in the Freerotation weekend. Also check his MySpace page.
