Stevie G is better at drumming and DJing than at updating his My Space site so I'm going to do it for him!! (Vashti, girlfriend of Stevie).
Stevie is a drummer, a bit like Animal from the muppets, only more crazy and more crustie. He started learning drums in a van on the beach on Hayling Island, as he was too noisy to be allowed to practice at home! Since those early days he has played in loads of bands:
- House of Cards, a Portsmouth band playing sort of punk edged rock and roll
- Faith in Kate, a London band playing middle of the road Fleetwood Mac style stuff
- Boris Botulism and the Salmonella Sisters, another London band, of which I've heard many tales, playing anarcho punk squat reggae, I think I would have liked this one!
- LSD with Dave and Louie, a North Wales band playing Ozric style music
- Midnight Snack, a North Wales band playing festival world dance Stevie says, although I'd describe it more as slightly slow rocky stuff, I saw them playing biker parties in Anglesey once or twice before Stevie was with them
- Tarantism, a North Wales band (now in Northampton) playing kind of crustie techno reggae folk festival music, Tarantism were fab, Stevie played congas with these (he played kit drums with the previous bands), at the same time as my sister was playing fiddle with them
- Hamish MacDoodle and the Kicking Keltic Kaos Crew, North Wales and touring, wild bagpipes with dance music, vocals and drums, never saw these but I would have loved it! Seen some sexy footage of Stevie on drums and congas with kilt and dreadlocks...
He is currently playing with:
- Red Stripe, North Wales, roots reggae, check them out on My Space (I've been a band girlfriend for this one)
Stevie has also DJed for many years, from his early days playing school discos in Hayling Island, via weekend club nights at Buccaneer on Hayling, indie nights at North East London Poly, reggae and festival tunes in Bangor Student's Union, dance music with Phil in the Llangollen in Bethesda and at various parties, Ethnomusicology at the Union with Adam (featuring live drumming), live drumming with Looney Toons and Transience in North Wales, Pink Palace in Port Dinorwic for the Millenium, various free parties in North Wales, and more lately (since being with me) Hendre Hall, Glastonbury (Cafe Tango), Workhouse Festival (extending the boundaries of chill out!) and various parties, plus many more we've both forgotten!!
In 2002, Stevie and friends started a Halloween night at local venue Hendre Hall, called Fright Night (I've been involved with the organizing team since the second year, was at the first one but we got together a week later), which recently saw in its 6th year with Eat Static playing an Alien Invasion themed night. Fright Night is one of the busiest nights of the year at Hendre, and we go to a lot of trouble with DJs, decor and random performance art to make it a special celebration for the original Celtic New Year's Eve.
Stevie is generally up for DJing or drumming out and about at festivals and parties, with Red Stripe or just with a box of tunes, contact him via My Space!
As well as being a drummer, DJ and general party lover, Stevie is also a fab boyfriend to me, a fab dad to daughter Amber (from a previous relationship), and proud (harrassed) owner of two nutter dogs and one lunatic cat.
