Morgan specializes in performance on bowed and plucked stringed instruments. After ten years of classical violin training and performance in both the Hereford Chamber and Worcester Cathederal orchestras, he began to teach himself guitar at the age of fifteen. He has since played diverse stringed instruments in many British-based touring and recording bands, covering a wide range of styles.
In June 2005 Morgan completed a degree in Ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London), graduating with a first in performance on sarangi, the quintessential bowed stringed lute of the North Indian classical music tradition. He is currently applying for doctoral funding to conduct a performace-based ethnography of sarangi players in Rajasthan. Morgan also plays for the SOAS Chinese Silk and Bamboo ensemble and has guested with several other non-western music groups, including playing double bass with Klezmer band She'Koyoch and electric bass with festival favourites Los Squideros.
Last year saw Morgan embark upon two lengthy tours of Britain, playing the roles of lead guitarists Scotty Moore and James Burton in the new Bill Kenwright musical "This Is Elvis". He received many plaudits for his "spectacular guitar playing" and enjoyed immersing himself in the guitar styles of these iconic players. The company performed over 230 shows throughout 2006, playing at theatres and venues in many British cities including London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Cork, Dublin and St. Helier (Jersey). This page previews working mixes of recent compositions written, recorded and co-produced with Y'n'R Productions, a small independent record label based in North London.
