Dubclub was formed through a common love of roots reggae music and a real respect of what it stands for. Apart from being quality music, roots reggae contains strong social messages about spiritual unity and respect for your fellow man - something which makes it unique and refreshing amidst the superficialality of mainstream pop and hiphop.
Since it's conception back in August 2005, Dubclub has grown to be one of the most popular and diverse roots nights in the Midlands. Following in the wake of the legendary Jazz and Roots Club, Dubclub is now regularly attracting massive audiences from right across the the country. Operating from the legendary Buttermarket nightclub in Shrewsbury, Dubclub has had the pleasure of hosting most of the legendary UK sound systems that have been performing across the globe since the 1980s; Jah Shaka, Jah Tubbys, Aba-Shant I, Channel One, Iration Steppas, Vibronics, Jah Voice and Ma-Kaya are just a few of the sounds that have blessed a Friday night Dubclub dance.
Dubclub also hosts a second room of music which aims to showcase the cutting edge of electronic sound system influenced music such as ragga jungle, breaks, dubstep and breakcore. We have invited several representatives of such music to perform including Pinch and Omen from Tectonic Recordings and Parasite from Death$ucker records. We aim to push new quality music which spreads a good vibe...
Dubclub is not all about roots sound systems; The Buttermarket also contains a large stage with balcony views from which the Dubclub crowds can enjoy legendary live roots reggae bands. Over 2006 Dubclub has showcased many fantastic artists such as; The Rasites, Luciano, Mikey Dread, Culture, Johnny Clarke, The Congos and Mykal Rose.
Moving into 2007, Dubclub will continue to showcase high-quality roots reggae acts for the enjoyment of the masses. In a world of increasing violence and prejudice, the uniquely open and friendly atmosphere created by the multi-cultural and diversely aged crowd at Dubclub proves that there still exists a space where we can all live as one.
