The Recovery Room

About Me

THIRD SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH, UPSTAIRS AT MOJO'S BLACKPOOL. 2PM-7PM ...OR TURN UP AT 12 FOR A BONGO JAM!
Overheated? Chewed your cheeks? Plain shagged out? There is only one place to go to get back on your feet... The Recovery Room is the brainchild of John Tree. A regular at WOMAD since the early days, he wanted to create a social space where people could relax, talk, and recharge their batteries without being bombarded with loud and banging tunes.
OK, so it's a chilled space, but with a relaxed fun vibe, and a wonderfully baroque and eclectic choice of tuneage.
Expect future collaborations with DJs Phil Beard, Buzz:ed, Kate Fear & Earthdoctor. Between them, they take influences from all eras, genres and countries, mixing things up to keep people guessing...taking in Leftfield tunes, Bossa Nova, Ambient, BeBop, Folk, Electronica, Minimal Techno, Dub, Reggae, Ska, Dubstep, Calypso, Mento, Bollywood, novelty records, curveballs, and the odd fluffy Pop tune.
Watch out for the 'medical' sign cropping up at a good few festies and venues over the coming months...

KATE FEAR'S Thanks to a music obsessive dad, I've been a fan of music for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories is of listening to his tape of John and Yoko's Double Fantasy in the back of the car, which has sparked off an interest in the weird and wonderful ever since. When I can't find the kind of music I'd like to hear, I've tried to create it for myself. After many years of solo bedroom jamming, I discovered the bizarre world of noise music and have played with the likes of Nigel Joseph, Candi Nook, Monopolka and Gimp Nipples. I joined the Ceramic Hobs a few years ago and have recently joined a hypno noise band with Phil Smith and Stan Batcow, as well as performing with Smell and Quim. Krautrock has been a big influence on me, particularly Faust, Cluster, Can, Kraftwerk and Amon Duul I and II. Folk is another favourite, with the likes of Annie Briggs, Miranda Sex Garden and Current 93 frequently turning up on the home stereo. This led to an occasional group of like minded people getting together under the moniker For Harlow's Monkeys, a folk noise group with whom I play violin and is generally seen as an excuse to down a few whiskies, stay up all night and play in the local woods. As far as djing goes, I aim for as far an alien territory as the audience is willing to go. This might include anything from Kate Bush and Kraftwerk to Bardo Pond, Sunroof!, Patty Waters, Yma Sumac and Bongwater.
