INJURY/ILLNESS OF THE WEEK: Paul has had his operation, is up on his feet and did some funky drumming on Friday night at the Sunrooms! And everyone else seems healthy too. This is pretty much unprecedented.
According to Jenna Leonard at Music Zine :"Despite their protests that the tracks they have available are 'only rough acoustic demos done in Cubase round Manda's house, Southend's Ten Tigers' first track 'Superlucky' lies somewhere between original British Riot Grrl Mambo Taxi and Manic Cough's recent b-side 'Spooky'. The vocals walk a fine line between sweet as pie and full on punka, with a pensive allure and despite the obvious recording set backs they show plenty of Poly-Styrene cum Voodoo Queens potential. The creeping B-movie guitars, sparse drumming and melodic vocals have a likeable rough around the edges quality. 'Sunny Shades' has the appeal of Dressy Bessy but with a more chilled out Californian sunshine feeling of fading sunsets and warm beaches, much like The Essex Green. The delicately strummed guitar and dreamy melody are a contrast to darker 'Superlucky' with it's bubblegum, indie pop vibe but again shows great potential for when Ten Tigers lay some tracks down in a proper studio."http://www.musiczine.com
According to the beautifuland talented Sophia at Noisyzine: "Southend's d.i.y, low-fi indie punks Ten Tigers take to the stage for their first gig proper. Yes, they have generously allowed Noisy to host their stage debut (well, technically their second if you count last month's appearance at the Grand's Open Mic night!) and garner the largest crowd of the evening. There's some unusual sound effects courtesy of a Thunder Box and a Buddah Machine, quite possibly the most epic introduction to a set I've ever seen at Chinnery's, a dance routine and an excellent cover of Daisy Chainsaw's 'Love Your Money'. The effects this performance has had on the Southend public appears akin to some sort of fever that's spreading rapidly and causing people to break into epic speeches about the greatness of this lot, investigate just what makes them tick and compare them to legends such as The Fall and The Slits. You need to see this band and catch the fever too!!"
