About Me
Paul Grogan, a vocalist and songwriter born and bred in Dublin, Ireland. An athlete his whole life, being a swimmer before he could walk, but his heart belonged to the music. Primarily a vocalist, eventually the need to put pen to paper and write some songs, led to picking up his fathers old classical guitar, and beginning the slow process of teaching himself how to play.
Three months of self-tuition later, Paul auditioned for a place in Dublins prestigious Rock School. After a successful audition, he would undertake 2 years of education under some of Irelands most successful musicians from a wide variety of musical genres, where he would be awarded a Diploma in Music. Paul would go on to perform at the end of year showcase gigs in legendary Dublin venue, Whelans, where in his first year he would appear high on the bill of acts and Co-Headline in his final year, to a widely impressed audience.
Rarely has a new talents arrival sounded so compelling, yet unaffected, there is a genuine sense of being this close to the singer and the songs here, the passion in his voice, tells you how deep-rooted the emotion goes with the performer and how much he just loves to sing.
All his songs are unforgivingly catchy, even if you dont speak the language, youd be left with a smile on your face, a hum along melody in your head and hooks that dig into your brain and dont let go for a second, and if you do the result will be the same. Paul also spends alot of his time in America, to get away from the madness of home so that he can write more of these infectious tunes.
When sitting down to write a new song or tweak and old one, Paul gets out his acoustic guitar and stretches his vocal chords. Theres a warmth and a tone to an acoustic that hits deeper than you can get with electric instruments he says, and I try to keep my lyrics simple, instead of the hidden meaning songs you get from some artists. All the time using his quick Irish wit and rare sensitivity to create songs that heat the heart and soul one minute, and make you want to jump around dancing the next.
His smooth yet booming voice, and larger than life vocal range used as a foundation to make strong soaring melodies help this Irish Charmer, describe his own genre of music, which Paul likes to call Acoustic Pop Soul, and Paul Grogan is it at its very best!
