About Me

Promoter from London organising Let's go baboon nights. Enjoy chaotic and charming gigs rather than smooth well organised ones. Their isn't really a theme as such, try and keep it as eclectic as possible
The next gig is:
Actually no Let's go baboon events currently planned, perhaps a charity affair in November, but on a slight sabbatical unless something wonderful crops up that is too good to miss.
This year though we have had some brilliant, brilliant gigs which have been:
January 28th 2007 at the Windmill our venture in to vauderville
Al Duvall (US),
Singing Sadie(AUS),
Nigel Burch,
Candythief
MJ HibbettThen March 21st at the Luminaire we went a bit anticon-electronic with:
Bracken
SJ Esau
Gareth S Brown + DJ Buddy Peace
For our sun-soaked easter extravaganza on April 8th at the Windmill:
David Cronenberg's Wife
Morton Valence
The Bobby McGees
The Cedars
The Unfortunates
& Jonny Berliner
Hopping on a couple of weeks and we had a bit of collaboration with the Windmill on 22nd April, we helped promote fine folk from
Tom Brosseau(US)
Screamer on The Hill
Fireworks Night
Mendicant
& Lungs
Moving in to the summer time to May 23rd, our first outing at the Spitz
Charlie Parr(US)
Fireworks Night (they were great, we had em back see)
& The Dials
June?
back at the WIndmill on the 14th for:
Kaiser Cartel (US)
Sister (new single on Parlephone in Nov)
Bone-Box
and Stars of Aviation (the nicest band around).
July 11th back at the Luminaire
Cheese on Bread (US)
The Wave Pictures
David Cronenberg's Wife
Coley Park
And lastly, August 23rd at the Luminaire:
Adrian Crowley
Jonquil
Dear Euphoria(SWE)
It's all been marvellous for me, many thanks to the bands.
Then potentially?
Who knows, perhaps nothing, possibly something. I might start promoting fictional nights, were the line-up I want are always available
Keep in touch though as lots of the bands we've put on over the years have been through this way
Enjoy rest of 2007 you.

My Interests

Playing drums badly, Music, putting on random gigs, Leicester City, Gloucester RFC, York City & Torpedo Haringay 5-a-side

I'd like to meet:

New things we really want to put on but are finding it a bit tricky at present but you really should go and see yourself and basically their our top tips...

The Loungs - Brilliant band from Manchester (home of the equally wonderful It's a Buffalo and Former Bullies). They sound like a brilliantly mixed up Housemartins/Beach Boys in 21st century clothes. Marvellous
The Sliding Rule - We're really sorry to Nima about the Luminaire show and hope to try and make it up to you soon. You should check out The Sliding Rule a collage of experimental sounds that deserve your attention
Nancy Elizabeth. Absolutely astounding performance at the Ssshhh festival earlier this year (even with a cold!) and I can't wait to catch her again soon.
Point and Arrow - need to get themselves a My Space and get on the case a bit (Lazy Leeds types) but are wonderful by the demo.

What we've seen and enjoyed this year:
Nick Cave & Grinderman
Hernan Dune
The Hold Steady
Low
Adem
Nina Nistasia
The Felice Brothers
Band of Horses (also my fave LP) & loads more...
In a band - let me know and we'll see what we can do. Cheers

Music:

Some of what we like is (last updated Jan 06): Hood, Sufjan Stevens, Low, Adem, Broken Family Band, Why?, They Might Be Giants, The National, Pavement, The Beach Boys, Disco Inferno, Game Theory, Adrian Crowley, Charlie Parr, MJ Hibbett, My Sad Captains, The Havenots, New World Record, My Two Toms, The Shins, Game Theory, Loud Family, Throwing Muses, Julian Cope, 65 Days of Static, Youth Movie Soundtrack Strategies, Robbie Faulks, Elbow, Johnny Cash, Bonnie Prince Billy, Palace, Micah P Hinson, Bobby Bare Jr, Yo La Tengo, James Yorkston, Sage Francis, The Human League, Clem Snide...
Before 2007, Let's go baboon has had perform a range of acts, some brilliant, some, ahem, not so. All very entertaining though
2004
Our first ever show was for Cancer Research in April 2004 featuring The Havenots (brilliant), Adrian Crowley & Our Tuli (now morphed in to Maggie!)
It used to take 6 months to recover from a gig, so the next one was October
It was at the Windmill with
CHARLIE PARR
HALEY BONAR (v. brief set!)
& MINES.
