You may think that using detergent alone gets your laundry clean enough. And although your clothes may look clean and even smell clean, they may not be the purest clean. Washing with detergent alone can leave behind invisible stuff embedded deep in fibers. Yucky stuff like germs, bacteria, and body soil.
Body soil, it's in there
Dead skin, sweat, body oils and other odor-causing residues that build up are commonly called body soil. As gross as it is, the average person excretes up to 50 grams of body soil per day! This is because on a normal day we each use 1 liter of sweat, eliminate 1 billion dead skin cells, and run off 10 grams of sebum, otherwise known as body oil. All this junk can come off on your clothes, towels, and sheets, getting embedded in their fibers. Unless its removed, body soil can build up over time, causing yellowing and dinginess, wearing down fabrics, and providing a feasting ground for bacteria and dust mites.
