"read me, i’m an open book…"
kimera. why have five men joined under that name, in order to make music? it’s about expression, fun, delight but not about straight entertainment, not about a mere pastime.
passion is the main reason why the band has gathered an impressing crowd of fans in the course of the past five years and why they presented their first full-length cd this year after having released an ep in 2003.
their style shows very clearly that they are breaking new ground in a very self-conscious albeit not unseen way. whereas in the very beginning the main reason for meeting was to find a common denominator, in the meantime the members of kimera have developed into very different directions. the sum of all these influences has resulted in that very blend which may be defined only rather inadequately by using conventional terms and definitions. the variety of different songs reminds of system of a down, the sound of the guitars sometimes of the deftones, the tension-loaded vocals of dennis lyxzén during the latest recordings of refused. the rhythmic spectrum adds to the fact that the term alternative hardcore is the narrowest genre concept by which kimera may be described to some degree.
much emphasis has been laid upon the balance between lyrics and music. thus the contents of the songs are as important as their diversity. personal matters, relationships, criticism and opinions as well as political influences have left their marks. although there is no underlying basic concept , the overall design of the entirety - and not only the lyrics and the music - communicates a tangible statement and a palpable atmosphere.

this attitude may also be experienced live. it is a characteristic trait of kimera’s performances that the musicians don’t restrict themselves to merely executing their songs. their unfiltered emotions are transferred with energy and passion to their audience. therefore their gigs are very popular not only in their home town stockerau (lower austria).
currently the new cd “tightrope†is promoted via live gigs and radio interviews. there is no strictly defined goal for the future – the five want to stay open-minded about new stimulation, they want to keep the motivation and the passion alive, they want to continue their performance and their development. last but not least, this steady process of learning is the reason why kimera are making music.

kimera. warum haben sich unter diesem namen fünf menschen zusammengefunden, um musik zu machen? es geht um ausdruck, spaß, freude. jedoch nicht um reine unterhaltung, nicht um ein mittel, mit dem sich die zeit vertreiben lässt. leidenschaft ist der zentrale grund, warum sich die band seit gut fünf jahren eine beträchtliche fangemeinde erspielen konnte und heuer, nach einer ep im jahr 2003, ihre erste cd veröffentlicht hat.
stilistisch werden, wenn nicht unbedingt neue, noch nie dagewesene, dann doch sehr klar eigene wege beschritten. traf man sich zum zeitpunkt der bandgründung auf einem gemeinsamen nenner, so durchliefen die bandmitglieder in der zwischenzeit entwicklungen in die unterschiedlichsten richtungen. die summe dieser einflüsse ergibt eben jene mischung, deren beschreibung sich nur schwer mit bekannten begriffen bewerkstelligen lässt. die vielfalt an unterschiedlichen songs erinnert an system of a down, die gitarren des öfteren an die deftones, die energetischen gesanglichen ausbrüche an dennis lyxzén bei den letzten refused-aufnahmen. die rhythmische bandbreite trägt das ihre dazu bei, dass der engste genre-begriff, in dem das nötigste zur beschreibung enthalten ist, alternative hardcore heißen muss.
die inhalte der songs stehen der diversität des sounds nicht nach, auch weil wert auf ein gleichgewicht zwischen text und musik gelegt wird. persönliches, beziehungen, kritiken und meinungen finden genauso ihren platz wie politische quereinflüsse. der gesamtheit liegt zwar kein grundkonzept zugrunde, jedoch sehr wohl ein plan, wodurch nicht nur die texte und die musik, sondern unter anderem auch die artworks in ihrer summe konkrete aussagen und stimmungen vermitteln.

diese grundhaltung lässt sich auch live erleben. auftritte von kimera zeichnen sich dadurch aus, dass die band sich nicht auf einen reinen vortrag der songs beschränkt. energetisch und mit der schon erwähnten leidenschaft werden die emotionen ungefiltert auf das publikum übertragen. ein umstand, der ihnen regelmäßige auftritte nicht nur in ihrer heimat stockerau (niederösterreich) und umgebung beschert.
zur zeit wird mit auftritten und radio-interviews die aktuelle cd „tightrope“ beworben. für die weitere zukunft wird kein fixes ziel verfolgt - man will offen bleiben für neues, die motivation und leidenschaft beibehalten. weiter auftreten, sich weiter entwickeln. nicht zuletzt ist es dieser lernprozess, warum kimera musik machen.
