Greg Morton

Singer, songwriter, producer

About Me

Born in Scotland, Greg started his musical life at an early age taking lessons, first on the piano aged 5, and then on the cello one year later. After studying cello at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, UK), Greg started professional freelance work with a number of different orchestras including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, the English National Orchestra and the Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra. He has also had the opportunity of performing a number of different concertos, most recently the Dvorak concerto with the Essex Youth Orchestra Association. However, during his time in Manchester Greg has also been leading a double life, working both as a singer and as a writer and producer of pop/rock music. In November 2000 he performed at the Rugby League World Cup semi-finals in both the Reebok and McAlpine stadiums and appeared on BBC1's Grandstand, singing 'Land of Hope and Glory' before the England game. Winning a competition run by Manchester's Key 103 radio station resulted in the opportunity to sing one of his own songs, "Something More", in front of 11,000 people at the Manchester Evening News Arena in July 2002. At the end of 2003, after a friend put his name forward for the auditions, he was the first £5000 winner of the M.E.N. 'Search for a Star' competition, held at the Willows in Salford and, as part of his prize, he performed at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall in May 2004, as well as appearing regularly at the Willows Club itself. Since 2005 Greg has been the Musical Director for the annual Howard Keel Golf Classic, now hosted by Don Felder (Eagles), working with legendary musicians such as Tony Christie, Rick Wakeman, and John Miles as well as the hugely talented rising star, Richard Fleeshman. He was also invited to become the official MD in the UK for Don Felder and to play keyboards with him at the Dunhill Links Championship, alongside Bon Jovi's Tico Torres. In 2006, a collaboration with long time friend Karl Johnson and his band 'Spin' led to winning a Virgin Radio competition and the chance to be the opening act for two of Bon Jovi's UK tour dates at the Milton Keynes National Bowl in front of over 120,000 people. Greg continues to write and produce songs, both as an artist in his own right as well as for other artists, whilst continuing to perform regularly around the Manchester area and the rest of the UK.
