A brief background
I received my first acoustic guitar for Christmas 1969/70 and soon after purchased my first electric guitar from a friend, a Sears Silvertone with five pickups and eight switches for $5.00. We formed our first real band the’ Gods of Thunder’ in the 7th grade with some friends and played several memorable gigs. The paying gigs came along at age fifteen when I joined the Xenia based band ‘The Rolling Wheels’, a sweet band featuring local legends Suggy White and Charlie Little. My bands have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with folks like Waylon Jennings, Bellamy Brothers, McBride and the Ride, 38 Special, Molly Hatchet, Southern Rock Allstars, Outlaws, T. Graham Brown, David Allen Coe, Barbara Fairchild and most recently 80's metal band Britny Fox...
My main band influence has always been local guitar hero Harold 'Cracker' Shaw who taught me not only to master your instrument and play guitar and sing but more importantly a few simple guidelines for band longevity. #1 Just have fun. #2 never, ever burn a bridge. And #3 if you’re in this for the money, you picked the wrong career...Truer words are seldom spoken.
Some of my favorite guitarists are Brent Mason, Johnny Hiland, the late great Chet Atkins, Ray Neighbors, Willie G, James Burton and Doug Seven. A lot of my musical inspiration comes from the classic and outlaw country artists like Merle Haggard, Willie, Waylon, Conway Twitty, Hank jr. and George Jones, along with the singer songwriters like Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, John Mellancamp, and Steve Earle and last but not least the Southern rock stylings of bands like 38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, CDB, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet and Marshall Tucker.
“Life’s too short. Just play music and have funâ€
