Sree Debasish Dass (Pintoo)Born on May day, Sree Debasish Dass has carved a special niche for himself in the world of Tabla, the king of Indian percussion instruments. He was initiated into Tabla at the tender age of five by his father Late Pandit. Dilip Kumar Das, a highly acclaimed Tabla player of Farukkabad Gharana. True to his date of birth, which symbolises sincere labour, Debasish (popularly known as Pintoo) put in years of relentless effort and unfailing dedication to master the art of playing Tabla. He completed his graduation from the world famous Visva-Bharati University founded by the great Rabindra Nath Tagore. Thereafter he plunged fully into the subtle complexities Tabla and completed his Diploma in music, Bachelor and Master degree in Tabla. He was awarded National Scholarship by the ministry of HRD. Govt. of India during 1988-90.After his father's early demise Debasish came under the privileged guidance of the famous
exponent and Guru, Late Pandit Jhan Prakash Ghosh, who has produced some of the top class maestros in Indian Classical Music (Debasish's father was also Guruji's first disciple)
In keeping with the same spirit of ‘Guru-sishya-parampara Debasish imparts training on Tabla and has a vast student following in India and abroad. Just few days back he is awarded the most prestigious award, Senior Fellowship by the Ministry of Art & Culture, Department of Human Resource & Development. Govt. of India. vHe has a accompanied renowned exponents of Rabindra Sangeet.
vHe has participated in numerous concerts accompanying world famous Indian classical
instrumentalists and vocalists.
vHe has rendered solo performances all over India, France, Germany, US and Brasil.
vHe has played fusion music with many African, Brasilian, Cuban, French, British and other
western percussionists and lead musicians. He is a regular member of fusion groups like
Ragleela, Sole Dimension and Genesis Orchestra.
vHe is an acredited Tabla player in All India Radio, Doordarshan (TV) He has done many
studio recordings on a professional level and has many CDs and cassettes to his credit.
vHe has been conducting classes and workshops in Santiniketan and Calcutta, Auroville and
Pondicherry (India), Paris and Toulouse (France), Essen, Dortmund and Dusseldorf
(Germany),Rome (Italy). Rio de Geneiro, Sao Paulo, Ouropreto and Curitiba Belo Horizonte (Brasil).
vHe was invited by the Federal University of Brasil (UFMG), Minas Geraise as a visiting
Professor for Tabla.
vHe is awarded the senior fellowship by the Ministry of Art & Culture, Department of Human
Resource & Development. Govt. of India.
vHe was invited by the ACCR, ministry of broadcasting and culture, Govt. of France, for
‘Residency’2006 December.
