CKLN 88.1fm

Toronto's Underground Community Radio Station

About Me

CKLN 88.1fm is the longest running campus/community radio station with the largest audience in the biggest city in Canada. Found on the furthest left of the dial at 88.1fm broadcasting at 250 watts, and on the web @ www.ckln.fm Since 1970 CKLN has been the voice of the underground for Toronto, broadcasting a vibrant mix of alternative music, spoken word and activist politics. Located in downtown Toronto at Ryerson University CKLN serves the larger community outside Ryerson rather than acting as a training facility for the school's R.T.A. (radio & television arts) program, although 1/3 of the station's budget comes from the students and there are many Ryerson students and alumni at CKLN. CKLN is run by a board of directors made up of representatives from the Student Union, CKLN and the larger community. The bulk of the station's budget comes from it's listeners during CKLN's yearly funding drive (in October), the rest comes from various grants and some advertising. Not to be confused with CKLN, Ryerson's RTA does have an internet station which is used for training RTA students but which has no connection with CKLN. In spite of the relatively small signal the station can cover the Greater Toronto Area and numerous surveys have shown CKLN with not only a bigger audience than other community stations in Toronto but also many commercial stations with more powerfull signals as well. CKLN has also been chosen by various media outlets and critics as one of the best stations not only in Toronto but in North America as well. In 2005 CKLN finally moved to new facilities for the first time in over thirty years and a signal upgrade is pending. CKLN can also be heard in real time on the net @ www.ckln.fm.________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ________________Our address: 55 Gould st (@ Church, two blocks east of Yonge) phone number:416-979-5251 on-air booth number:416-595-1655 fax number:416-595-5068

My Interests

Music, Politics, the Arts, Broadcasting, the Media, and especially anyone who can do this...

I'd like to meet:

Members of the international campus/community radio and alternative media community and our listeners & readers. Note that this is not the station's official website, that can be found @ www.ckln.fm Any inquiries about business, advertising, programming, tracking or volunteering should be sent there, ditto for press releases or complaints. Any such messages will not be forwarded, I mean it, there are literally a couple hundred full and part time staff and volunteers at CKLN and I can't possibly keep track of them all let alone act as their messenger service so don't ask. That website again is www.ckln.fm where you will also find the station's phone number, address, program guide as well as charts and playlists, along with links and contacts for specific shows, you can also listen in live inreal time. That said, you can find a few CKLN programmers here (especially in the top 16) you can contact them directly, and I will keep you posted on important and interesting developements. You can also find other radio people from around the world in our friend list. Note to bands, record companies, "street teams", fan sites, authors, film makers, and playwrites; We are not your publicists, if your latest opus isn't getting the attention you feel you deserve don't whine here, I don't care and neither does anybody else, so be nice or begone.
