HERE ARE THE FIRST REVIEWS OF OUR DEBUT ALBUM 'FIRST IN LINE' WHICH IS OUT NOW THROUGH SHOCK ON ZATZIT RECORDS
Ah, the dulcet sound of simple rock and roll. you can take your experimental free form 13/8 templo jazz explorations, fractious sonic collages of of space and sound and introsepective folky insights into the subtle paradox between nature and love, but I'll have my music with a gun barrel straight 4/4 beat, a meat trays worth of medium rare guitar riffs and some earnest bogan pub rock poetry.
Devilrock Four are about as electic as a surf 'n' turf meal served up at the local pub. And that, strange as it may seem, is a compliment. This is rock at it's most primitive, unpretentious and sincere. having titilated the fist waving local community with their riffalicious EP a couple of years ago, Devilrock Four are back with their debut album, First in Line, on James Young's fledging Zatzit records.
The scene is set early with the ominous rumbling of Jim Richardson bass in 'Dirty Little Secret', the refrain "ain't foolin' me with your lies, ain't foolin' me with your tears" could be invoked as a contemporary political slogan. Any temptation to drop the pace in ignored in 'This is Forever', and treated with Thin Lizzied contmpt in 'Dance Floor'. While 'Dress you Down' labours slightly under its Cult like yolk, 'As real as the Day is Long' is the ideal iTunes category in which to file the band's music and 'Don't Throw It Away' should be the audio and thematic soundtrack to every thinking punters vinyl collection. There's an early threat of lighter-waving silliness in 'Love Is Blind', a threat proved as empty as the cans in the outer of a country footy game by some throttling licks and concluding Angus Frehley guitar antics.
True to the accompanying biographical material, there's no attempt to re-invent the wheel anywhere here, but the wheel is damn smooth by the end of the Devilrock Four's journey. A couple of years ago the Melbourne City Council celebrated the success of AC/DC by re-naming Corporation Lane AC/DC Lane. In 30 years time Whitehorse Road may yet be bestowed the honourary title Devilrock Drive.

Play this album loud! The Devilrock Four debut will have you playing air guitar and remembering rocks glory days. The riffs are big, th solos sizzle, and the band whips up a mighty groove.
Unfortunately the album probably lacks that one killer cut like 'are you gonna be my girl'(Jet) that would break it wide open (though 'Dirty Little Secret', 'Dance Floor' and 'No Friend Of Mine' come close). But rock fans will still find it thrilling.
With bands such as The Devilrock Four and Airbourne, it's back to the future for Australian rock, and the future is in good hands.
