Airport Convention

The sound of one hand clapping.

About Me

Named after an ancient Guild of Glassblowers (an airport is the technical term for a blow pipe) which was set up by Janice's great-great-great Grandfather, Jock Dobbin, in 1856 in the village of Croperdy, Norfolk. The 'Airports' (as they are affectionately known) first 'convened' in 1991. All members of the group are professional chefs by trade but, following the dictum that man cannot live on bread and cheese alone, and adhereing to The Bard's contention that 'music be the food of love and world peace', they have doggedly pursued their own lonely musical furrow forever. Since 1991 we have recorded a number of albums including: Swordfishtambourine ('91); Smells Like Metholated Spirits ('92); Unhafldrinking ('93); OK Composter ('94); Peel Like Makin' Love ('95); The Ploughman's Bountiful Water ('96); Wonky Chateau ('97); Chronic Ironic ('98); Mellow Cellos ('99); Jazz Custard ('00); Tambourine Dream ('01); Dark Side Of The Spoon ('02); Flour, Combustion & Pies ('03); What We Drank On Our Holidays ('04); Fleetwood Gap Services ('05); Still Lazy After All These Years ('06); Gnomeology ('07); The Lamb Lies Down On Broadstairs ('08); Saint Janice ('09). In 2010 we signed to Alan Partridge's Modeo Bongo label and a box set containing our entire back catalogue plus rareties, B-sides, alternate takes, pointless studio banter, and a bonus Mono mix for sadoes, will be released later this year, entitled, 'Neglected/Rejected'. Read our rejection letters from Sir Cliff Richard, Rolf Harris, and John Peel if you don't believe the pain we've been through. See under pics. Love and peace.
