About Me

PHIL KING DEBUT ALBUM "LEAVES" AVAILABLE NOW AT www.phil-king.net or on..or in BROAD ST JAZZ in Bath

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6 !
Hi. Welcome to my space. I have been gigging around for about 5yrs now. Highlights include playing at the Jazz Cafe in London, Glastonbury Festival 2005, 2007 and 2008, Trowbridge Festival 2005 and 2008, Ashton Court Festival 2006, Priddy Folk Fest 2007, Guilfest 2008, and 2 weeks gigging with Backyard in Thailand! I have also been lucky enough to play support slots for Kate Walsh, Foy Vance, Tina Dico and Amp Fiddler, and to share the stage with many amazing Bristol artists including Beth Rowley! I recorded my first studio album "Leaves" in 2006, the first track of which has been played by Bob Harris on his show on BBC radio 2. It is available for download on itunes or mail order at www.phil-king.net.
I play classical guitar too, and acheived a distinction at grade 7. If anyone is looking for a guitar teacher, I am always interested.
Also check out these other bands that I sing with around the UK. RnB Band BACKYARD, (www.backyard.uk.com) And Blues/Soul Act, THE FORSTER-KING BAND (www.forsterkingband.co.uk)
I wrote a tune with Bristol band Unforscene called "Dangerous" which appears on their recent album "Fingers and Thumbs". This is also available on itunes. I will be performing it with them this summer at Bestival on the Isle of Wight.
I also compose a bit. I have written music for live dance performance for choreographer Laila Diallo which has been shown in Bristol, London, Cardiff, Swindon and in Europe and Canada. I have had some music on a TV series in feb 2006, on ITV. If anyone is interested in more info, please contact me. Peace

Sounds Like:
"Since the sad passing of Lynden David Hall the UK scene has been deprived of a male jazz-soul vocalist of genuine acoustic class, minus all the bling and innuendo of lesser talents. Hall's jaw dropping voice was best heard when backed simply by his own accomplished George Benson style acoustic guitar work. This gap is finally being filled by the emergence of Bristol based PHIL KING who's quietly reclaiming jazz-infused soul music of real depth and quality. Now releasing his beautifully funky acoustic solo debut "Leaves", Kings voice reminds one as much of Nick Drake as an impassioned Bill Withers, on songs that are as delicately crafted as they are cliche free; he's also a spellbinding performer, go see him live ."- Jazzwise Magazine UK
"Sensitive, heart on sleeve songs.....this is a very good debut, whose best tunes create a suitably intimate and melancholy mood enhanced by laid-back acoustic picking and subtle swells of Hammond Organ."- The Independent
