About Me

Hi, thanks for taking a look at my page. I began studying the piano at 6 years old, and took up the cello when i was 9. I studied at the Junior Royal College of Music for four years, and in the holidays I was a member of Pro Corda (National School for Young Chamber Musicians). After taking my A levels, I studied at Bath Spa University where I gained my BAmus. I gave my concerto debut at the Assembly Rooms in Bath in 2003.Since leaving university, I have taught and performed at Bath Spa University, and have also played with orchestras in the area. I am a member of the Bristol String Quartet, where I perform regularly in Bath, Bristol, Gloucester, Somerset and Devon. The quartet is available for hire for weddings, special occasions such as retirement and birthday parties, and also for corporate events. If you'd like to know more please visit our website http://www.TheBristolStringQuartet.com/I also regularly do session work for bands, including Sine Star Project, and more recently Kula Shaker. I also recorded a JC Bach Keyboard Sonata which was used on Persuasion on ITV in april this year.In 2006 I began playing cello for Phil King. I regularly perform with him in Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham, and London. His album 'Leaves' was launched in November, and is available from iTunes, and also in Broad Street Jazz in Bath. You can also order directly from www.phil-king.net, or download from www.chilledmusic.com. Or just have a listen to some of his songs on his myspace page. One of the tracks off the first album 'Leaves' was recently aired on Bob Harris' BBC 2 saturday night show.Just recently I have begun working with Gavin Thorpe, a Bristol-based singer-songwriter. Gavin's album 'Pictures' is available at all major record stores.I study the cello with Richard May, and performed the Bridge Sonata for Cello and Piano with Andre Schilmon at Clevedon Music club last month.I teach the piano and cello, but I am also available for lessons in music theory. Sounds Like: 'Although Bristol-based King has been compared to Bill Withers, his sensitive, heart-on-sleeve songs and folky backing, with Kate Robey's cello lines shadowing the vocals, might have more in common with Seventies California cowboys. What's certain is that this is a very good debut, whose best tunes create a suitably intimate and melancholy mood, enhanced by laid-back acoustic picking and subtle swells of Hammond organ.'
