About Me

GALL AND WORMWOOD ............................................................ .............................................. I've been making music all my life. After a colourful childhood filled with Wendy house re-enactments of Kate Bush videos and forming playground pop combo’s at the dinnertime disco I set up my first teenage band which became power-pop, fuzzed-up four-piece 'Kill Laura'. I mis-spent and squandered my youth in the name of rock ‘n dole debonair, drinking in biker bars, touring pastoral England in Transit vans listening to Husker Du and conveying mixed up messages to NME and Kerangg journalists as I decided whether or not I wanted to be Brix Smith, Brit Eckland or Brit pop chanteuse ............................................................ .............................We set up our own label, got signed to a Major label, recorded loads of albums but never released one. I spent the rest of my time dodging jobs (I was a part time chauffeur for George Clinton once) and taking lifestyle tips from ‘The Decline of Western Civilization Part 2’ soon lead to the decline of our northern ambition. After a mutual split I moved to Manchester where I met New Orders Manager and Maverick Rob Gretton who offered me a record deal ............................................................ .After a short re-nesting period basking in the fall-out of post-Hacienda hedonism I began working and playing live with the likes of Andy Votel, Badly Drawn Boy and Doves who helped me to record some singles and a debut solo album. Sadly, when Rob Gretton died his label went with him and my album never saw the light of day...............................................I continued to perform gigs with my studio buddies (mostly alone on acoustic guitar) alongside bands like Clinic and various acts from the Twisted Nerve label. Encouraged by Andy Votel I developed my ‘American Spring meets Suicide’ alter ego which became 'girl groop 'Misty Dixon', who (consisting of Anna Greenwood, longtime side-kick Sam Yates and token Short-hair, the late Dave Tyack) have since had five Farfisa-fuelled releases on the battered and bruised Twisted Nerve label ............................................................ ......................................Inspired by a relocation to the countryside I’ve continued to write songs under my own name and play live habitually (most recently alongside Marissa Nadler, James Yorkston, Richard Hawley, Voice Of The Seven Woods and Kathryn Williams). My 7 track LP 'Like an Aspen Leaf' has been released in England, France and America through PIAS records which has enabled me to meet and pursue projects with some of my most influential friends such as Wendy Flower from Wendy & Bonnie. Collaborations are still a big part of my creative life leading me to set up my own label ‘Bird Records’ ............................................................ ............................................ I currently reside under an apple tree on the outer limits of Greater Manchester surrounded by the sounds of Linda Perhacs, Karen Dalton, Josephine Foster, These Trails and The Pink Fairies. My latest album 'Cherlokalate' is out March 2007.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
