HOW IT ALL STARTED.......
My career started at the age of eleven at the Queen's theatre. "Summertime" was my first ever performance in a band or to an audience. Performing one more time at the age of thirteen. I then took a big leap from jazz into punk, where I secured a position as a co-vocalist. It took one show with "Mad Dog" & a lot of punks spitting to realise that punk was not for me. I went on to write my own lyrics & later recorded a demo. At the age of sixteen my singing career took another leap, this time into Extreme Metal.
Although embarrassing now, the demo I had been so proud of, had fallen nicely into the hands of, who are now one of the biggest extreme metal bands around: "Cradle of Filth".
Having become Cradle of Filth's backing singer & gaining a B-Tec National Diploma in Performing Arts, by the age of twenty, I was also touring & recording with bands such as Therion & Mortiis.
My vocal range is four octaves. I'm very versatile but most of my recorded work is of an opera style. I have never had any vocal training. I'm self-taught. I've spent 13 years recording & performing with extreme metal bands & at one stage, playing bass in a Black Metal band.
With over 27 albums under my belt, I've finally formed my own band, ANGTORIA. Signed for 3 albums with Listenable Records and the first album released in May of 2006, entitled "God Has A Plan For Us All".
I've worked extremely hard as a session singer to get where I am today. Finally im not only just a backing singer! Now im a front woman also!
Singing is my life!!
MY PERSONAL MESSAGE TO YOU!
I've never considered myself anyone special nor unique. That is something that my fans have made me feel. Thank you. Everything you have read in the past that has come from me is true but I've never tried to make people feel sorry or pity me. I've just been honest about my views, my thoughts & my life. Something I feel a lot of other "rock stars" could take note of & do themselves. I found through the years, a lot of the people we admire seem to forget where they come from & somehow give the impression that the fans are below them. People like this do not deserve your support or mine!
I've worked hard just like anyone else, be it music or a factory worker. Kudos comes from those who are on the same page as me. So look closer & see through that "Sarah Jezebel Deva" image. I hurt like you, I have dreams like you! So some may laugh & say "How false/fake" but I wouldn't say this unless I mean it. Don't put me on a pedestal! Just know that you can be anything. You wont get anywhere in life sitting around judging people or thinking you know everything. Go out there & make your mark! I have............. No matter what anyone thinks of me... ALL of my proudest moments are in music, be it a song I sung or a person I have met. Life really is what you make it. Don't let ANYONE knock you down!
I don't want to be skinny, i don't want to conform to fit in to what people think i should be part of, i don't want to be beautifull or sexy, i just want to be me! I want to be happy! I won't change for anyone.

Fan Interview

Q) Hi, I was wondering what your opinions on MP3 downloading, (both legally and illegally), were - do you think it affects the profits of your band/brings in new fans?

A) I think downloading a song or 2 to check out a bands sound is fine but downloading a whole album because your too tight arsed to spend a little money is stealing. You cant say you support a band and then download their album for free. The band has to pay that money back. I find it disrespectful. Its almost like a huge f**k you to bands that are struggeling. People complain that bands dont come to their town and forget that money doesnt grow on tree’s. You borrow that money from the record company, its not free. But if a band doesnt have the money to borrow because they havent sold enough albums, its only made worse by people trying to get a freebie. Ive never downloaded. I never will because there is myspace now. If someone recommends a band, i check their music on their profile. Im not rich, im far from it but i can spare some cash to support the band i claim i like.

Q) Hi Sarah, I was just wondering if you guys keep in contact with the ex cradle members?

A) A lot of ex members dont even know eachother or people have fallen out over the years. Some of us stay in touch with certain people. I stay in touch with Adrian, Gian, James and Martin. I sometimes speak to Paul Ryan, Robin Graves and Damien but havent talked to Damien in a few years now. Also WAS, he was the drummer before Nick, he went onto do Extreme Noise Terror, havent seen him in a while but i know he is doing well.

Q) I am going through a very bad part of life right now and trying to rebuild it slowly. I just wonder, have you ever had a huge failure in your life especially at something you never thought you’d fail at, and if so how were you able to overcome it. For me now heavy metal is the thing keeping me from falling apart totally, and women like you who are tough and just do your own thing.

A) I always tell people that we, as humans, show people the side we want them to see. Ive always tried to be me, not conform to anything that i dont believe in just to fit it just to score points, so ive never made it a secret that ive had a pretty shit childhood and the reason im so honest is because im tired of hearing "Oh your so lucky, you have such a great life". It really annoys me because what the hell do people know about the real me? So i tell them "Im just like you. I dont fly, im not a bloody Vampire, i aint rich and im not lucky to be on stage with certain so called metal gods". We are all trying to do what makes us happy. We aren’t sitting around, watching life pass by, we are trying to make a difference and at least bring a bit of happiness to our own lifes and those who listen. So, you answer is yes, ive been knocked down many times and i will get right back up. Its called believing in yourself. On the odd occasion, i get some spotty little short dicked kid on blabbermouth call me a fat pig or whatever. Do people think that im that weak and unstable im going to go sit in a corner, cry, eat pie and stop singing? F**K NO! Why the hell would i let a little low life from behind a computer affect my views, influence my life? I would like to think i havent failed at anything. I would like to think that ive have learned something from my mistakes when i was younger but never ever regret who you are and if you let people get you down, your only holding yourself back. The people who throw shit at ya are the ones that really have no life, no ambition and will end up being a no body. And yeah, same as you, music saved me! You need to find your goal in life and push yaself until you have reached it.

Q) Was it your choice not to be in some of the COF videos or someone elses?

A) Some video’s i didnt need to be in because i didnt sing on the track. As for not being in Mannequin... i suppose ask Dani.... :)

Q) I know that your album, God Has A Plan For Us All is about how the religious try to explain away bad things, or evil things their own people commit with "God wills it" or "He has a plan for us." My question is was there a personal story behind it, or are you speaking for all that experience that? You don’t have to elaborate for my sake, I’m just curious.

A) The album isnt based on God, its actually just one song but its based on God and Pedophiles/child sex offenders. Yes, there is a personal experience behind it but also i wanted to get people to think about the hypocrisy behind the statement often used by religious people "God Has A Plan For Us All". Example, its Gods plan to have a pedophile rape a 6 month old child? Apparently we are told "Its HIS way". Or your mum is driving down the street and a truck hits her car and kills her. The ONLY answer religious people can give is "Their time was up, god was calling"..... Nice guy that God is huh! I do wonder why so many people STILL havent woken up. Religion really is the biggest scam in the world. I would love to shake the hand of the guy that wrote the bible, very clever guy, not only have sucked in thousands of years worth of weak minded people but also caused a lot of greed and war. Ok... you got me started on religion.... haha... i really have to stop now!

Q) You performing in any format with any group.... your voice is awesome and I’d love to see you live! Are you planning on visiting the land of Neighbours and Home and Away any time soon?

A) Out with CoF right now (Sep-Nov 07) and ive had so many people ask about coming to Austrailia. The answer is ive no idea. Its not up to me or the band, its about booking agent, promotors and money. Hopefully next year (08) but DONT quote me on that because ive no idea. Sorry.

Q) Sarah, how were you High School years? Did they go well? Also what got you into the metal scene?

A) I actually never really bothered with school. I used to "Bunk" as we call it. I found it pointless. How very stupid really because its no until you become an adult that you wake up and things start to creep up on you. So my advice is to ANY KID! GO TO SCHOOL! The amount of messages i get from kids and even adults who cant even string a sentence together (English being their mother tongue) is appalling. People may think its cool not being able to read and write but one day, you will need a job and you if you don’t go to school, you will end up cleaning toilets or working in one (Mac Ds). I always knew what i wanted to do, sing! So i found 95% of school crap. It wasnt until i left school with a C in Drama that i though "Shit!! I have wasted all those years sitting in the park smoking and drinking". So i managed some how to get into college, i did re-sits, came out with more qualifications and then went onto do a Diploma in Performing Arts. I still bunked a bit but i got an education at last! Actually, it was in my first year of college when i was 16 that i met Paul and Dani for my audition. It was only about a year before that that i got into Metal actually. My mate Sophie who i have known since i was 5yrs old got me into it. I was into dance music, we made a deal, she comes to a rave and i go to a metal bar. Well, when your young, your very impressionable and i tell ya, the metal bar didnt close till 2am and it was hard getting me out! I loved it, i was hooked and ive been head banging ever since and it wont ever change! I love metal. End of. (yeah.. i ditched the shitty dance music)

Q) I have never had a chance to ask anyone from CoF or Dimmu if they thought they were similar and a real tour with both them band would blow the stage up.

A) Well i know for a fact none of us think we are similar musically and we are not. Anyone can tell the difference. We are both extreme bands and thats as far as it goes. COF and Dimmu already shared the stage in 97 with Dissection and In Flames. It was a 6 days festival tour and yes, it kicked arse! But it wont ever happen again, i doubt it very very much. Too much competition now i believe but hey, you can dream huh.... it would be cool if it was say Dimmu, CoF, Immortal, Mysticum, Behemoth, Gehenna, Mayhem and Satyricon all did a show but i know right now it wouldnt happen with Satyricon! haha... but i would crap myself, would be a dream come true! Its happened a thousand times in my head. If people could just put their imaginary musical differences to one side for the sake of the music and fans!

Q) I am a fellow opera singer and I wanted to know as your one of my many idols, what do you do to prep your voice and throat for the stage or studio to get the most absolute amazing presence?

A) I find that really weird, someone saying im their idol. Its nice but i really dont understand it. Im Sarah Jane. That’s it. Me. Never thought i would ever be some ones idol. Its sweet, so thanks, i hear that a lot from both males and females

Q) Did you visit Bathory Castle before recording Cruelty and The Beast to get some sort of feeling?

A) Nope. We had never visited the castle until last year (06) when we toured Europe. Myself, Charles and Dan went. It was an amazing once in a life time thing. Doubt we will ever have the chance again and it is in ruins. Someone needs to invest some money into it and restore it or at least stop it from falling apart further. Its a shame, its history. If i had the money, i would invest in it tomorrow.

Q) Why is music getting crappier as time goes on? Pretty much everything ive heard from 2002 on sucks. Im talking about pretty much all music. Not just one band or style in particular.

A) But thats just your opinion isnt it. Maybe you should start stamp collecting or train spotting if your bored with music OR form your own band if you think you can do better!

Q) What are the highest and lowest notes you can reach? both with operatic and "normal" style?

A) I’ve no idea. My range used to be over 4 octaves but im sure ive lost a few notes as ive got older. Im not musically trained but my highest note was top E, so count backwards from that on a piano! Ive no idea how high i can sing in a normal style though. Sorry... i just sing! Open me gob and it comes out ;) (most of the time)

Q) Do you think that when you’ll perform with Angtoria (let’s hope soon!) you’ll also do something you’ve done with the other bands? And if so, what? [ok, this might be asked also to your companions, so...]

A) I dont know what the future holds for Angtoria, time will tell but if we do tour, we wouldn’t do anything from other bands. Why would we? We would do our own music but maybe i would ask Chris to chuck in a few Abyssos tracks because i think it would be cool for fans to hear it. But who knows, its a long way off. Busy with CoF till xmas at least.

Q) I’m one of the few who can pronounce your name correctly (your stage name, obviously!) and dunno why but this came to me: will we ever see a solo record by SJD, featuring folky, songwriterish, acoustic songs?

A) Haha.... people cant even spell my name right these days. They seem to keep knock the H off the end of my name, so nothing surprises me! As for the solo album............. stay tuned ;) Thats ALL im saying right now!

Q) I’d like to work for the world of music I love so much; behind the scenes, since i can’t even ring my door-bell ring or sing a note so I’d like to contribute with working for magazines, webzines, managements, gig organizators, etc. I don’t dare asking you a suggestion about that but if I’ll succeed I’ll be able to say with vanity this has been my first sort of interview!

A) If you want to work behind the scene’s, get writing album reviews and/or show reviews and get submitting your work to magazines! Thats how it works normally, oh, and dont give up! :)

Q) I just want to know, after doing so many bad ass CD’s with Cradle, did you not want to sing on Thornography because you knew what the outcome would have been [not all that good], or was it something entirely different?

A) Actually i did sing on Thornography. I dont understand how people have missed that part. Im on "Cemetary and Sundown" & "Under Huntress Moon". I also sang "Stay" on the Special Edition and another song which i dont know the name of. I think maybe people think i didnt sing on the album is because im doing Angtoria also. Theres also the point that admitedly im singing less and less on CoF albums because the music is just less female friendly now.

Q) When is Angtoria on tour Sarah???

A) Ive no idea. When im done with CoF and when the band has some money. People think that a band can just jump on a flight and turn up and play to 20 people. Thats not how it works. Imagine how much it costs to fly a band plus some crew, all your gear, additional traveling costs and hotels? So its not realistic to play 1 show in the USA for $200 to 50 die hard fans. It would be great if it could be that way, just how it would be great if money grew on tree’s. This is the sad reality that stops bands from touring the places they want to tour. Its all about money and Angtoria is just too small to get into that amount of debt when you have a family and bills to pay for.

Q) Do you ever get tired of the Dani obsession? Ya know the people who are Dani this, Dani that as if hes the only member of the band.

A)Totally but not just Dani because im not bad mouthing him, its the ignorance of fans that think that the lead singer is the only band member. Lead singers in fact normally do the least amount of musical work. We mostly sing and write lyrics, some singers dont even write their own lyrics. But its seem the singers get all the praise and i think thats wrong. Without the band writing the music, where would the singer be huh? A band can survive without vocals but the vocalist needs the band. I think its sad how fans by pass the rest of the band just to get to the lead singer. Very disrespectful i think, most of us think.

Q) What really inspired you to sing and what do you normally put on a rider for shows?

A) Ive always been able to sing but my inspiration really is to just want to make something of myself. I see so many people saying "I wish i could do this" but dont do anything about making their life better. Its hard work, it drains you mentally and cash wise but if you want it, you gotta stick to it. Well the rider is normally a basic list made up by management but personal requests will be added if say there is a vegie on tour, or a vegan. Dani and i are fans of Soya milk. I also requested 100% Pineapple juice and Soya yoghurts this time. Wow... im so wild huh! You also have to bare in mind nothing is free, the band actually indirectly pay for their riders and is part of the bands fee. So if a band charges $1000 per show, in that fee with be a $50 food budget (Food rider). There is also a techinal rider for playing the show.

Q) Hi sarah.. I have a question.. Are u thinking about leaving Cradle of Filth?.. Because i see that you are not on the new album that much as before.. i was wondering now that u have ur own band..

A) Seeing as i answered another question about the new album up the top, i wont talk about that again, as for leaving CoF, well i think every musician thinks about leaving a band now and then, doing something different or just want something else in life. One day i will go yes, ive been there 13yrs now, i will have to go sooner or later. There is more to life than standing at the back of the stage scratching my arse for 60% of the show waiting to do an "ohh" or an "ahhh". I love what i do, dont get me wrong but im 30. We all change our views. We all wake up one day and realise we need or want something different and everyone in CoF is like that, i would say everyone in any job wakes up and thinks that now and then if not all the time. Im not leaving yet but i will go one day. Nothing is ever carved in stone right? We all have our families and dreams to think about.

Q) If you could choose one place to sing, by yourself, not the agent, where would be that place? Also to visit.

A) There are a lot of places i would love to go. i would LOVE to play Turkey. Also New Zealand and South Africa. To visit, well i have a big love for South America, Columbia especially. There is just something about that place. But i just love South America. Its always a pleasure to play. People think that being in a band you have a wonderful life, it is so not true, nothing can be further from the truth. You spend most of your career on a flight or a bus, sitting back stage and waiting, being bored, it takes money to leave the venue to travel into the city and fans just think because you are in a band, you are automatically a millionaire. Its false. Maybe if your Metallica, yes, or Madonna, yes but not us, not me. So my point is, all the places ive been to, although ive not seen much, ive felt the passion of the fans and had a few amazing visions along the way (and some food poisening). Im grateful for that. Ive been to Paris about 8 times and still ive seen nothing other than porn shops. Im not proud of that. Ive never been to the Grand Canyon although passed through so many times. Its sad. You are there to work, not sight see! So one day, i will see these things but it wont ever be on tour.

Q) How is life for you when you’re not on tour, do you go out, party, spend time with friends?

A) My life is probably like yours and everyone elses that reads this. I see the people i care about, spend time with them, i love cooking, i enjoy the internet some times, i love shopping, the odd gig and metal night when i can, im a home girl now, i love being home. Ive done so much and missed out on so much from being on tour. For example, my sister is getting married 27th of Sep. Guess where i am? On tour. Im gutted, im so disappointed i wont be there. Its another life on tour, its not reality. I used to get so depressed coming home from tour because i would come home to reality, now i cant wait to get home, see the people i love. There really is no place like home when you have spent so many years living out of a suitcase.

Q) Name 2 persons who were there for you, and you respect and love them :)

A) My god mother and god father. Took in a fucked up kid and sorted me out. My uncle too, if it wasnt for him i would have ended up in a childrens home. There are many that have been there for me, so many special people, to many to mention and it would be pointless to just mention names but i love and respect all the people that i call my real friends.Kisses from Romania, and I just wanna tell you that I admire you alot! Sabbra.

Q) What do you think is most important in an artist? or in other words.. what is the ONE THING that the artist should have to be successful?? Love & Respect, Rafaa

A) Respect for people and themself. You cant really name just one thing, you need determination. Confidence and "Get up and go" in life. You also need to be tough, cant let peoples jealousy and bad words effect you. Thats for school kids. Believe in yourself. Know that you can always do better and never ever get an ego!

Q) My favorite song on Thornography was "Under Huntress Moon." I like songs that have you in them, like the song will build up until you say or sing your cool little rhymes (Example:Vempire) Do you know if their is any future song(s) in the works like this?

A) Thats not really for me to answer. Thats for Paul and Charles, they write the music. Im sure there will be though. But i love Under Huntress Moon. It kicks arse and im glad i was part of that. When the new line of stage clothing will come out and are you trying to target a particular market? Mostly women to be honest and yes! All sizes! :) But its in early stages yet, mostly talk but it will get moving soon. It will all be made to order im sure. Just stay tuned. I always send out bulletins with updates.

Q) When the new line of stage clothing will come out and are you trying to target a particular market?

A) Mostly women to be honest and yes! All sizes! :) But its in early stages yet, mostly talk but it will get moving soon. It will all be made to order im sure. Just stay tuned. I always send out bulletins with updates.

Q) I have a female acquaintance who has a similar singing style to yourself, and wishes to use this talent to her advantage... She’s never really heard of session artists, and would now like to now how she would get about entering this line of artistry!

A) Make a demo, get a myspace page and spread your name around like hell! Its now so much easier to establish yourself as a musician. When i started, it was demo’s through the post and writing letters through snail mail! The internet can be an amazing thing, so use it!

Q) HELLO BEAUTIFUL! I was just wondering, what bothers you the most about the internet, I mean, what really pisses you off?

A) People who cant be bothered to spell correctly in their own language. If your unsure, use spell check. Dont type like a monkey and destroy your language just because you think it looks cool! Its isnt. Its annoying trying to read that crap. Also people that cant be bothered to spell my name right. They say they are a fan and send a mail saying "Hi Sara". Call it stupid but i think not being bothered about spelling someones name right is disrespectful dont you? Its SARAH! :) Others things that bug me? People who try to act hard, bitch you off from behind a computer and say "im going to come over to your house and beat you up". haha... i mean, you would think some of these people never wanted an education. Also people uploading stupid concert footage from their mobile phone. Its always shit! Why do it, makes the band look rubbish! Well.... you asked ;)

Q) Dear Sarah could i have your permission to cover Angtoria’s god has a plan for us all? Shaun

A) You dont need a bands permission to cover a song live, ever! If you want to cover a song for a cd and plan to release it, again, you dont need permission to do so as long as you dont change the song lyrically! If you do, you must seek permission from the person who wrote it. Also, if you release the album and gain income from it, you must make sure that the original artist gets their royalty from it, so contact the record company!

Q) What is the best thing a hopeful singer can do for their voice?

A) Dont abuse it! Warm up for at least 20 minutes vocally, dont smoke, cut back booze, cut back on dairy products and drink plenty of water. But it does depend on what kind of style you want to do. Doing Opera, DONT DRINK! DONT SMOKE! DONT HAVE DAIRY! NO LATE NIGHTS ON THE ROAD! If you want to sing like Lemmy, then go party and get f**ked out of ya face! ;)

Q) After watching the cradle dvd’s and seeing the way the guys are, how do you stay sane while on tour?

A) Since the last dvd, the line up has changed so much and nothing happens much anymore. Dani and i spend most of our time shopping or looking at shops and watching dvds in the back lounge after a show. The rest may get a few beers or go online. Or we watch dust while touching each other.

Q) Did you get stage fright when you first sang in a concert?

A) Totally! I was only about 11 when i did my first singing job. I just turned up. My godmother asked if my sister and i could sing a song with the band and we did, no practice, nothing. We messed up but people loved us. My first live audience was about 300. It was a Jazz band. I would love to do it again now. But i was so scared.

Q) On your album god has a plan for us all the song "Original Sin" had guest vocals with Aaron from my dying bride, do you have any plans to do more work with him?

A) No plans yet but i would love to as i think he is amazing. I love his voice so much. Who knows what the future holds huh.

Q) Hi, this is Kristen and I have a question. Is it weird having people know so much about you but you know nothing of them?

A) Ive never really thought of that. I think its weird when people think they know you better than they do. Im a very private person to be honest, i love people but i dont want them to know everything about me. There are lots i hold back but lots i share and the reason i share certain personal things is because people need to know they are not alone. If that makes sense. You also have to remember we only show you what we want you to see. So people think they may know me but they dont. I always say no one knows you better than your lover!

Whats it like working with Dani Filth?

A) To most, he is some kind of god, to me he is Dani. No one special. I treat him like i treat every one else. People shouldn’t be put on pedestals. If he pisses me off, i dont hesitate in putting him in his place, just like he will do with me or anyone else. He is human. Normal. We are like brother and sister most of the time. I just don’t view him like others do.

What is the most difficult song to perform?

A) Oh there are loads because im older now. My voice has changed and its been 12 yrs since i started working with metal bands. As you get older, the voice drops a little, it matures. People forget that. I often come across a part in a song that is harder now to perform than it was say, 5 yrs ago but it wouldnt be a whole song. Just parts or certain notes.

Excluding Angtoria, what album are you most proud of?

Vempire, Midian & Nexus Polaris. Sorry, i must pick 3 because they are my faves!

Is Dani Filth, an asshole?

Haha! I would be lying wouldnt i if i said he was perfect. Lets faces it, EVERYONE can be an arse right? No one is perfect. Im sure i can be a bitch sometimes. How someone acts is all a matter of opinion. Everyone has there good points and bad points.Everyone has their "Off" day. Famous people/rockstars tend to get treated like royalty by fans & i dont agree with that. They should earn your respect. Just because someone writes a shit hot album, doesnt mean they are worthy of special treatment right?

What’s ur favorite alcoholic drink?

A) Jack. Has to be.

You’ve been working with Cradle of Filth for a while now. Have you ever been romantic with any of the band members?

A) Eww... Just... EWWW!!!

On the Peace Through Superior Firepower DVD, you and the CoF guys seem to be at each other’s throats rather often. Is this a constant thing or just random bouts of good-natured ribbing?

A) When you are on tour, you are like a family. We annoy each other, we rip the piss out of eachother, i beat Charles up because i can, we mock each other and at times we hate eachother. You live virtually on top of each other, no space, no privacy. Even their farts invade your bunk space. We have fun at times but most of the tour is spent thinking up ways to annoy someone because laughing at them passes the boredom. Im still waiting to clue someone to their bunk...

Are you a fan of any local/unsigned bands in your area? If so, Who?

A) Oh, i rarely go out these days. I cant even remember the last unsigned band i saw. Bad aint i!

How did you join Therion and CoF? Auditions? Did you send a demo?

A) Demo to CoF when i was 16. Then when i was 21 i did my first tour with CoF which then lead to contact with Christopher of Therion, who took me because of my experiance with CoF. My voice then developed to its full potential because of Therion. I was still young and immature when i started Therion, i smoked and drank too much. So for a while after he didnt use me but then i grew up and he took me back. I love those guys.

I was just wondering if there ever was a time in your life where you doubted yourself and what you used to get over it?

A) Oh yes. Believe it or not, im still getting over it. When CoF did the tour in Europe with Immolation a few years back, i was sick 2 times in a row. There was no chance to recover, i just had to sing and because i strained so much, something just gave up. I lost 80% of my voice by the last show. After that, i was drained emotionally too and i think it all became psychological then. The final blow came when for a few CoF tours i was placed right next to Adrian’s drum kit. All of his drums were shooting down my mic, so when i turned up my in ear monitor to pitch, all i was doing was turning his drums up. It effected my hearing a lot too. No one would address this problem, after all, i was just the backing singer. I talked to Adrian Erlandsson a lot about it. He actually helped me get through it and made me address that i had lost all my confidence. I was very very close to giving up in all aspects. I quit Therion because of it and almost quit CoF. I have to admit it was one of the lowest points on my life and i ended up on medication. Somehow i got through it. People were very good to me & i was moved further away from Adrians kit. I felt like i was trying my hardest to sing every night & was totally defeated by the stage set up. Slowly but surely though, the confidence was coming back and im more or less back to normal. A few pitching problems & my voice has changed a lot but that’s life. People forget how hard it is up on stage. Its no way as easy as it looks.

Your an inspirational singer to me and my band, what inspires you, your band, and your songs? What influences you? What gives you that extra "oomph?"

A) My past inspires me. My friends inspire me. Black Metal inspires me. And that extra "oomph" is, its my life and im going to make myself heard and known. You don’t get anywhere in life sitting on your computer bitching about how you think others should run their life! Get out there and do something with your life. Be someone. I had a very bad upbringing. I was going to end up another statistic.

Do you believe in a limit to what can be considered good, and what can be considered evil?

A) What is considered "Good" & "Evil" is up to the person individual beliefs and views right? Its an opinion. I consider bashing baby seals over the head till their death pure evil but to some, its a sport. Depends how you are brought up and where you come from. Hard question to answer really.

Do you play any video games in your spare time?

A) Oh no! I would rather watch paint dry! haha

"What shoe size do you wear?"

A) Er... why? Do you have a foot fetish? Wanna lick my cheesy feet? Size 8 (UK) .... Dont buy me high heals... it would be like a sausage on a cocktail stick!

I was curious as to whether you did all of Cradle Of Filths videos with them or if you did mostly live performances?

A) Ive done a few. Malice & Dusk were done years ago for Head Bangers Ball (When it was good and played real metal), also ive done Her Ghost in the Bog, A Promise of Fever &... er... i cant remember.... Yes... thats it i think. Of course iver done both DVDs, all albums apart from the first & too many live shows to count.

Now you have an album, a band... why don..t you have shows with Angtoria?

A) These things take time to happen and cost money! Lots of money, which our record company has to find and we have to earn back. We are too small right now. 3 live in Sweden, Dave & i live in the UK. Our album needs to sell first. But also im very very busy with CoF at the moment. One day... Angtoria will tour! Dont worry.

Imagine that you are supernaturally powerful enough to do lots of things through dark magic (or just physically, but heh :-P ) and whatever you want with absolute impunity. How would your personal revenge be over a man like the priest in the "God Has A Plan..." video, if you stayed in a situation like the girl there?

A) Torture till death. Cut his penis off, rip his finger nails off and toe nails, ram his cross down his throat, cover him in honey, hang him out in the sun and let the wasps to the rest! Priest or no priest, anyone that rapes/ sexually abuses women/men/children do not deserve to live

Do you like working with Cradle Of Filth?

A) Well its been 12yrs! So i guess the answer is yes!

Why do you have 2 mics on stage?

A) It was the sound mans idea, means he doesn’t have to keep switching levels between narration and singing

Is COF having a tour is it going to be in North America

A) As with every new album, there is always a tour in North America. People forget that tours take time to get booked! Europe first and the rest will follow.

How were the sales on your album, did you all do as well as you thought you would?

A) Bands get sales statements every 6 months. Ours is due now. I understand from people ive talked to outside the record company that we are selling well in the USA,which is great because i love the USA. These things take time. Sales will be slow in some places and better in others. I heard that we havent sold much in Germany but hopefully that will get better. Give it a year or so, the name needs to grow!

Is the girl in the Nymphetamine video Sarah or someone else?

A) I did the original version which ended up on the special edition album, which is also the version that gets played live. The one that was released as a video did not contain me. It was someone else.

Are you going to do more stuff with Cradle Of Filth or are you done?

A) As ive said... 12yrs and counting. I did the new album and im on tour now... nothing will change for a long time!

Is Angtoria coming to that states? If so, the Virginia, DC areas?

A) The album has been out less than 2wks. Bands need money to tour and we dont have money. One day we will come but not enough people know us or our name. People need to buy the album and not download it. Without record sales, promoters dont care about bands. They want to see sales... sales = $$ for them! Whether people like it or not, money makes the world go round and money makes or breaks a band.

What made you team up with Cradle Of Filth and form an awesome duet?

A) To be honest, im not sure what you mean. I started CoF when i was 16/17. I was young & already in a Punk band (REAL British Punk, not that americanized bulls**t) & after doing an album & a show, i decided it wasnt for me (It really was a case of spot the clean person), so i went looking for another band. CoF were no bodies at the time. Only had one album out, so the word "Cradle of Filth" meant nothing to most. I just ended up growing with the band. As for the awesome duet? You mean me & Dani? Well, im not sure we are a duet, he spends most of the shows screaming over me haha

what makes you strive through each song? A) Live? Hoping i will get through the end of the show without fucking up! So many times i have bad "In ear" sound from my monitors. I just try my best.

I’m a big fan of you and your work and I also sing but never had singing lessons and now that I’m 23 years old and have no band or inspiration to write songs, I feel like quitting my dream of becoming a singer. A lot of people say that I have talent and I should do it as a career. What would it be your advise to my situation?

A) I will tell you something, NEVER EVER give up. Some people think they can sing. Some people even tell people they can sing because they dont want to offend. No voice is perfect in the beginning, so i STRONGLY advise getting singing lessons. Something i didnt do & i admit i regret. Warming up is a major thing, knowing how to take care of your voice & breath right. And everyone has to start somewhere. My god mother always told me "You get out what you put in". Its taken me years to get my own band together & yes, it is hard but its worth it. Dont let anyone knock you down but if you give up, who is the one that suffers? Its you. You lose out. Get out there & look for a band! Its that simple.

Was there anyone who really helped you get your career going? (other than Mr. Filth)

A) Mr Filth hasnt really helped me. The band has helped me.Individual members have stood by me more than he has.But he seems to totally support Angtoria which is nice. My mates have been great & of course my god mother, she was the person who pushed me so much into singing, so we all have her to blame! ;)

Is your family involved in your life and, if so, how do they feel about your career path?

A) I will be blunt. My mother doesnt give a damn about any of her kids. She only cares about material things. She cant even be bothered to remember the name of the band. My dad is amazing & very supportive. My brother is too.My little sisters are ace as well because they are both "Industry" minded. The rest of them, well, no support really. None of my family are really close. Yeah ive lost out, im over that. I just know when i have my own children i will never raise them the way i was raised & i will always support them. Its sad that i have to admit this all but life goes on!

How has your love life been going? Or do you not have time?

A) Well enough for someone who is hardly home. We have been together years now. Sure we will get married at some stage.

What inspired you to sing and when did you start?

A) Well my childhood was pretty repressed. I didnt hear music untill i was 8 or something & that was only because my mum kicked my brother out of the house & he gave me his record player. I didnt have any records at the time but my dad took me out & bought me Madonna’s True Blue/ Holiday 7 inch single. Its funny because im sitting next to Paul A as i write this & ive just said its very strange how questions conjure up lost memorys. I even remember where he took me to buy it, an english store called Woolworths. Totally unimportant to the reader im sure haha. Anyway... i used to sing along to it all the time because it was all i had & also it was an escape from my mother, to be able to go into my bedroom & listen to something other than screaming & shouting! My mum didnt have money, we were pretty poor really & my childhood was so restricted that you really had to do what my mum said otherwise that was it! When i left home when i was 9 yrs old, i moved in with another family member who had never had kids & hadnt a clue how to raise kids. I ran riot. I was no longer afraid to get up out of my seat.No longer afraid to talk.Unfortunatly thats how i put a lot of my weight on because i was free.Anyway, i then had pocket money & was allowed to watch tv & i got into pop music.I dont really remember the point where i realised i could sing but it was probably after listening to Madonna albums & later singing along to Mariah Carey. It was my god mother who really pushed me hard. She was the one who told me i had a voice. She was the only one who supported my dream & thats because she was in show business too. She has done so much in her life.My first singing performance was in a Jazz band when i was 11yrs old. So i suppose you could say it started there! (sorry that answer was so long!!)

Why did you leave Therion?

A) I was at a very low point in my life. Very low. Lost all my confidence & was on medication. I had CoF on one side & Therion on the other & i was so mentally fragile at that time i couldnt deal with anything. Thats when i had suicide on my mind. I had to make a choice really for my own good & i felt that at that time i couldnt give Therion all they needed & i felt i would have let them down, so i had to tell Christopher its time for me to go, although i really didnt want to. It hurt to go because i loved them very much but it was the right thing to do for me & them.

What part of your body do you enjoy most ?

A) Im 80% happy with all of me. I dont give a damn what others think. Its my body, im the one that has to live with it but i know theres room for improvement but i will only sort that out because i want to & not because of pressure from anywhere else. I love my eyes & lips. Im very happy with the size & shape of my arse & breasts too! Rather like my feet also! Oh! And ive a very huge penis! ;)

What songs did you preform with Therion?

A) My discography is on www.jezebeldeva.com Its lists every album ive ever done. As for what songs ive performed? Too many to remember!

What is your favorite band?

A) Impossible to answer really. Ive many bands i love. Emperor, Alice In Chains, Skid Row, Mayhem, Dead Can Dance... I can go on forever. I dont think i have a favorite band. But i have a number one album if that helps? Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse. Its been my favorite for years & years.

.Are you upset about the use of Dirty Harry and Liv Kristine?

A) Why would i be. They are not friends of mine. They are just people trying to get someone in music. They do what they have to do to get somewhere. Maybe im a little pissed that a certain someone makes promises & then goes back on them later but oh well, no point in letting it rule my life! Im the backing singer. End of story.Been there too long to worry about a guest singer. Also adding something different sometimes spices things up right!? I may not like or agree with certain things but i certainly dont hate them. Not my band!

.The Wind that Shakes the barley, anything else like that? A) Not that i know of. That really was a one off track. Almost my way of saying "Hey! I dont just sing ohhhss & ahhhh! I can sing words too"!! When i asked ton do this song, i actually wanted to prove something to people, prove i can do something on my own.

38) What do you think of this myspace page?

A) Im honored that someone thinks that highly of me to make one & honored that so many people think that highly of me to add the page. The support means the world to me.

Did you ever sing with Dimmu Borgir?

A) I have no idea where this rumour came from. All people have to do is look at my discography on www.jezebeldeva.com or look in the cd booklet for the credits & you will get the answer! Ive even read this in a few of our album reviews, i really dont know why some dont look into these things first before they print this stuff. Working with Dimmu would have been amazing but ive only been on tour with them once when they played on the Cradle of Filth "Gods Of Darkness" tour in 97.
