There must be something worth living for...

About Me

Dreambreed formed from the ashes of thrash band Darkened in 1991. They released 1 mini album "Sometime" in 1995 (Coast to Coast recordings) and seven demos featuring over 30 original tracks. They unofficially split in 1998.
This site is dedicted to those early years of the bands existence and is a fan site.
A short history: Back in 1990 a small unknown thrash band named DARKENED had hit a wall. With 2 demos out and profile shows played, frustration of not being able to progress futher led to then vocalist Mike Raby leaving the band. Now a 3 peice, featuring Dave Pybus on guitar, Mike Rhodes on bass and Gary Querns on drums, Dave decided to give the vocals a try. The first song jammed out was a St. Vitus cover from their 'V' album (with Wino singing) and they soon progressed to some Misfits covers to get Dave more of a work out. This led to a few shows and in 1991 original material was written and recorded for the first 6 track demo entitled: 'Life is a Hideous Thing'.
At this time, the band was happy to garner some press from fanzines and do shows with the Meteors (in Bradford, on Halloween '91) and other cool local acts. Not wanting to pressurize themselves like they had in the previous band, they went into writing new material which saw light on their second demo 'Low' in 1992. The 3 tracks were recorded in a small studio in Huddersfield where they met engineer Geoff Clout who had worked on Rollins' DO IT album. More dates followed and at the beginning of 1993 bassist Mike left the band and was replaced by Daves younger brother Loz. The 'Three Worlds' demo was written with just Dave and Gary and recorded at Academy studio's with engineer Mags in 1993. A home demo was recorded at this time too, with 4 songs, but was never released to fans or zines.
Early 1994, Dave returned from a trip to the USA where he sent in a demo to Roadrunner head Monte Connor. A refusal letter came a month or so later (ironic now that 12 years later Dave made an appearence on the Roadrunner all-stars CD!!!). Loz left to be replaced by local bass hero Paul Thornton. A more serious attitude was now taken towards rehearsing and writing and this saw the demo 'Novena' released with more live shows played. A one off deal with Coast to Coast Recordings came in 1995 and the 'Sometime' 6 song mini-CD was released. Shows supporting Solstice, Ship of Fools, Anathema, Reef and UK tours with My Dying Bride and Bruce Dickinson followed. Early 1996 was set to gain the band a full record deal, which never materialised due to the bands non-marketable stance on their image.
Late 1996, Paul left for uni and was replaced by then Anathema bassist Duncan Patterson. 2 recording session's in Liverpool were to follow, seeing the bands best material plus 3 rare (now lost) Misfits covers, but their last show was played on Wednesday 16th July at the bands fave stomping ground of Bradford Underworld. A lull of activity followed and in Summer 1998 Dave disbanded the line-up. He was then asked to session for and later join Anathema on bass guitar.
Dave did record 2 original songs with the help of Brian Moss (Drug Free America/Mirazma) in autumn 1998 and were released on the final demo 'The Misery sessions' which was set to be independently produced. In late 1998, Dave decided to hold the material back for future use when the time felt right. A new project USONO is now in the making.
