JOE WILSON, steel guitarist with Steppininit and Wayne Hancock joined DREW HOWARD, veteran musician & steel guitarist to record twelve classic and original tunes featuring pedal and non-pedal steel guitars.Joining Joe and Drew is an A-list of expert musicians from across Michigan with combined show business experience of 582 years. Bassist Dominic John Suchyta , guitarist Joshua Davis , and keyboardist/drummer Dave Collini provided the huge rockin' rhythms.Joining them were Michigan notables Mike Lynch on organ, Don Julin on mandolin and tenor banjo, harmonicist / brass guy Andy Wilson , and the very talented Rachael Davis on hot gospel vocals, and vocal back-ups by none other than May Erlewine . We'd like to thank these fine and talented musicians for giving of their time and talents to this project.Song material ranges from timeless standards to SHTW originals, sacred to swing, country to ragtime, funky and western, Benny Goodman to Bob Wills. The recording venue was Heart Center Studios in Big Rapids, MI. Studio owners and hosts Michael and Margaret Erlewine graciously and generously gave of their time and studio space which allowed Joe, Drew and the band to crank out 12 tunes in less than three days of uninterrupted time. We thank them!!For steel guitar fans and the gear-obsessed, many vintage guitars and amps were used in the recording process. Bronson, Valco, National, Fender, Gibson, and Kay were all represented, as well as newer stock, Beard, Guernsey, Fessenden.Joe handles the non-pedal chores and is panned right, Drew plays pedal steel guitar with the exception of "Let the Healing Begin" and is panned left, both play eight-string dobro.
We are proud to be part of the Earthwork Music Collective , and used the talents of Collective member and artist Susan Fawcett to paint and draw us while we recorded. Her artwork graces the album and this website. Thank you Susan!! Also, Collective member and artist John Lindenmayer (along with Drew) created the CD layout. YES!!!Thanks also to Fox on a Hill Productions for supporting Michigan musicians such as ourselves.
