The Tinglerz were formed quite by chance in the rock mecca that is Las Vegas, in the Spring of 2008. Like any other relationship, it was all about timing.
Once upon a time, there was a Las Vegas-based band called The Pervz, the brainchild of drummer Joe Perv ~ the epitome of the blues, jazz and old school rock n’ roll for which his native Chicago is so renowned ~ and guitarist/vocalist Kei. Kei eventually departed and the Pervz went on to change lineups and achieve a solid degree of success and a rabid/loyal fanbase. Accolades included being voted Best Local Rock Band for two consecutive years and the cover of the Las Vegas Weekly. Along the way, they created some damn fine noise.
Meanwhile, in a galaxy far, far away (okay, the East coast), bassist and sometime vocal stylist Jhen Kobran (aka Gracie Killjoy) gained some notoriety of her own as a co-founding member of Boston band Half Cocked (recording two albums ~ Sell Out and Occupation: Rock Star ~ for Curve of the Earth Records, and one album ~ The Last Star ~ for DreamWorks) and New York City band Slunt (recording the band's final album One Night Stand on Repossession Records). She then settled into retirement following a handful of successful world tours, capped off by a month-long tour of the States opening for Kiss' Paul Stanley.
By now Joe Perv was drumming for Las Vegas darlings The Objex but was longing for something different and by accident from an online ad reunited with Kei. But where to find a bassist? They found Jhen squandering her publishing royalties at a downtown Las Vegas sportsbook and asked her if she might reconsider her decision to retire. She dusted off her bass, scrubbed the rust off her fingers, and found herself in the presence of greatness and realized she'd missed the rawk far more than she'd ever expected.
"Joe channels the best traits of the best drummers I've ever played with but adds some unique nuggets of his own in a Bonham-meets-Moon-meets Donny Paycheck sort of way", she observed. "Kei, on the other hand, is what you'd get if Zeke's Blind Marky Felchtone and Kurt Cobain had a Japanese love-child. The hooks he writes, the leads he plays and the vocal melodies he spews make him the real deal".
