In 1977 you're on the never never.....

About Me

Liverpool 1977 - Ohio 2008; Bombsite Webzine actively explores the music and punk phenomenon from 1977 Merseyside.Through stories and adventures of the teenage band members of "Why Control" and writers of "Bombsite" fanzine. These blogs include some rare punk photos and expanded commentary from our original 1977 fanzine. Bombsite was first published to support the youth movement as it migrated from London to Britain's North. If you visited Probe records or Eric's in 1977, you most likely read a copy of Bombsite. The fanzine ran for about a year, and during this time Mark H (aka Rip] started beating on Drums, Martin C (aka Al Bum)broke guitar strings, Colin G (aka Grom)thumped his Bass and Clif I (aka Cookie)found a voice. The band originally named Bombsite and later changed to "Why Control" was regularly practicing and playing venues around NW England through 1977. They immediately inspired a following from Merseyside and North Wales. Their sound was loud, chaotic garage punk filled with teenage energy. The divide between cutting edge and mainstream music and fashion, led to loads of tension and fighting at gigs. Local authorities were also shutting down shows and venues willing to embrace the alternative movement. As Eric’s regulars, the group avoided the local art crowd and believed punk rock was about breaking down walls with raw energy, loud amps and broken speakers. The idea of a record deal or signing to a label contradicted the origins of their ideology. "Why Control" were not interested in selling out to an establishment that controlled what people listened to, or what they could do..... They believed in truth and freedom, and were angry at the state of England during this period...
