About Me

THIS BEGINS IN CAPITAL LETTERS, SORRY. THIS PROFILE IS THE LAME PERSONAL ONE WHERE YOU CAN FIND GREATER INSIGHT INTO MY SOUL.
PLEASE GO AWAY. THE MORE USEFUL BAND PROFILE WITH MY SONGS ON IT CAN BE FOUND HERE:

THE NEXT SHOW
I am an all-purpose musician and sound geek. I play bass and provide harmony vocals for Karmedy . We are all about being successful at making records, playing shows to huge crowds and making mad cash because we earned it by being so god damn talented and hard-working. I've played in few other unusually talented original bands also. My music, intent and good fortune have already brought the best talent of this generation right to my doorstep many times over, even though my doorstep has been located in places as remote as Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I still own a music studio.
I am considered smart enough to think my way out of a wet paper bag (in my experience, it depends on the bag). I like to keep myself in shape, balancing that with a professional level of partying that comes along with the music scene sometimes (always, okay, but I don't have to burn out early). In some spiritual circles, I have achieved the status of Priest, but I will never tell you what to believe, or how. I'm open to people who are open-minded, because anyone's resistance to learning is the only excuse, I think, to call that person a dumb ass. I've got some mad skills in writing, tech and a lot of other really boring things that I either did for a living out of desperation, or else never had the money to pay someone else to do.
Here are a couple of CDs you should buy. Just saying.

Thank you for your time and attention.
Please note the music. It's really good.

My Interests

Music is my reason for being alive. I like weights, running, biking and living in the northwest for staying healthy. Writing is fun for me. I write and say really funny things. And depressing lyrics--I can write those too. I operate in subtle planes, so I like to learn about occult things. Especially the ones that don't involve conspiracies. Dig the tattoos and metal what's up with that--if you have to ask with that look on your face, might I suggest you talk to someone else less threatening who likes wearing shirts. I don't like wearing shirts, but I do like a good beverage. Nature and natural places are essential. I grew up trailer enough to learn how to fix and operate everything. I grew up with enough education to learn how to fix and operate everything for all the right reasons. I collect electric fans and strange people with exceptional talent and skills. Life is interesting, but very short. Do something cool while it matters.
Making musical performance my full time job is what I do. All the rest is distraction in support of the music. All the universe is sound and light , as a friend of mine would say. Sounds like a good show.

I'd like to meet:

I like to meet dedicated musicians that love playing for people. Furthermore, I hope to find associates willing to change lives (theirs and others') to make the time and space for their music to happen. Like, in real time, by DOING THE WORK it takes to develop musical skill, material and all the business connects that will eventually lead to income. I am ruthless in my own pursuits, hoping to get to know folks of like mind so that my musical career can proceed without someone else's relationship and job issues getting in the way.
There's only so much time in a day, and we are all only one person each--pick a direction and go there! That's what I'm about. I personally don't have time to deal with family planning or following corporate career paths, but if these things are important to you and your significant other, I send you many blessings on your road to diapers and lawn care. We all make the best choices we can.
Fake it till you make it and be real and true to yourself, is all.
Found out that nothing is more transcendent and meaningful to me than playing a really great show on stage, just my band and our audience. That's the shit--high magick at its loudest. If you've ever had an experience like that, and want to make that a constant in your life, I'd like to meet you.

Karmedy is my latest project, already a top band in the Portland, Oregon music scene.
Moray made a cool album that you should buy .
Shiva is still a band in Albuquerque, New Mexico, check for their show schedule!
I have also been in Prana and Flies of May. Samples available on Ian's Music Profile
Okay, okay! I'll list some influential bands! Damn...
TooL, Meat Puppets, Smashing Pumpkins, Joni Mitchell, Black Flag, Mudhoney, XTC, Nirvana, Jethro Tull, Seether, Radiohead, Black Sabbath, Pantera, Rush, The Mars Volta, Jefferson Airplane, Steve Earle, Stevie Nicks, Melvins, Soundgarden, Bach, A Perfect Circle, Stone Temple Pilots, Meshuggah, King Crimson, Steely Dan, Duran Duran, B-52's, ABBA, oh no, I've said way too much...
...yeah and all those other bands, too. I kind of get into dark, heavy, alternative music the most. But whatever that means.
Special thanks to Jim Blanchard of Jim's Images and Susan See Photography for the quality pics, Christopher Scott of Scream Along Songs for the quality recordings, all the great musicians I have ever worked with and anyone else who supports this reality.

Movies:

Lately it seems like two hours is a long time to sit on my ass staring at anything. It really is, but I'll try anything once.

Television:

No.

Books:

Yes. Just don't have enough time to read.

Heroes:

Henry Rollins
"The average is the borderline that keeps mere men in their place. Those who step over the line are heroes by the very act."
Benjamin Franklin
"Most People dislike Vanity in others whatever Share they have of it themselves, but I give it fair Quarter wherever I meet with it, being persuaded that it is often productive of Good to the Possessor & to others that are within his Sphere of Action: And therefore in many Cases it would not be quite absurd if a Man were to thank God for his Vanity among the other Comforts of Life."
Georgia O'Keefe
"To create one's own world in any of the arts takes courage."
Albert Einstein
"He who joyfully marches in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would suffice."
Terry Pratchett
"It was sad music... It said the universe had done all it could but you were still alive."
If you pursue your passions, regardless of anyone or anything that discourages such noble, expressive behavior, you are my hero. That would include me.

We all live in a yellow submarine

Does anyone out there know what it feels like to be really depressed after playing a show?  Thought so, heh heh! Fun, isn't it?!  You finally get to play in front of people again--it's alway...

Return of the King

I'm not a huge Tolkien geek, unless you count the fact that the Ring Trilogy was the first adult literature I ever read, back when I was 7.  I mean, I haven't even committed to seeing the movies ...

As it should be

(Shut up, Buddha!) No, that was harsh, the old man has the right idea.  If it's not as it should be, then what else is it?  Some kind of cross-dimensional time-space displacement that no one...

That's better!

Some things are definitely better than they were during my last bitchy blog.  Still in need of crappy employment, at least there are some promising musical things going on.  And finally, due...

Maybe it's the heat...

Another hot and sunny day is upon us in the Pacific Northwest.  One would think this a blessing given P-town's reputation for dark, cold and wet, but it may at least be part of the reason I find ...

That's right, I've had this new Tool album already for a week.  Whatever you may think, that makes me cool.  Cooler than most people.  And better looking. Seriously, this music is ...
