DEMAND THAT WARNER BROS. AND DC COMICS STAY TRUE TO THE SPIRIT AND HISTORY OF OUR FAVORITE HERO IN HIS MOVIES!!! Sons and Daughters of Krypton, Metropolitans, Daily Planet subscribers, and everyone who loves the Man of Steel: PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF "SUPERMAN RETURNS" AND THE POSSIBILITY OF A SEQUEL TO IT, "SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL." It is my humble opinion that Superman Returns was a financial disaster and a scar on the face of the Superman Legacy. The film cost upwards of $300 million (yes, that includes failed pre-production before it FINALLY got on track) and it only racked in a little over $200 million domestically. That's a bomb! On top of that, the plot was forced, slow, and blasphemous. SUPERMAN DOES NOT HAVE A BASTERD CHILD! HE WOULD NOT ABANDON EARTH FOR 5 YEARS! I am outraged by how they tarnished the character I am fanatical about, and scared to death about what they might do to him in the future! PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEBATE!WHO IS BETTER??? The REAL hero, or a cheap imitation? Chris Reeve, a Guilliard trained theater actor, versus Routh, a 3rd rate soap opera actor! Brandon Routh auditioned for the Clark Kent part on the "Smallville" TV show at the begining of the decade, and he was deemed not good enough to be a television Superman! Yet, ironically, Routh is allowed to portray the Last Son of Krypton in the feature film! He was cast on the basis of misguided nostalgia for the Reeve movies. We need to honor the past, but MOVE TOWARDS THE FUTURE!!! Chris Reeve's inspirational motto was "GO FORWARD." So ask yourself if you want to see more of a bad impression of our beloved hero who has passed on, or do you want to see the Champion of Metropolis taken in a new direction? CHRISTOPHER REEVE WAS THE BEST SUPERMAN! BRANDON ROUTH WAS A SLOPPY CLONE!!! (To be completely honest, I think GEORGE REEVES & DEAN CAIN & TOM WELLING are all GREAT as well! I just think CHRIS was the best!)I AM A HARDCORE SUPERMAN COMICS/TV/MOVIE FAN. "SUPERMAN RETURNS" WAS A TRAVESTY. NOT ENOUGH ACTION. BAD ACTING. BAD SCRIPT. BABY MOMMA DRAMA. BRANDON ROUTH IS A CHEESY CHRIS REEVE CLONE. BRANDON ROUTH IS TOO SKINNY TO BE SUPERMAN. KATE BOSWORTH SUCKS AS LOIS!!! THE SUPERMAN FRANCHISE NEEDS TO BE REBOOTED!!! "Kevin Spacey hits up Brandon Routh's b-side! Supes has decided to EXPERIMENT. Yuck!" Yeah...I don't want to be mean, but Superman is an American hero. A manly, heterosexual Amercan hero. I'M NOT CONVINCED BRYAN SINGER WANTS TO ADVANCE THE MYTHOS OF AMERICA'S "HERCULES", OUR HERO WHO IS BLATENT AMERICANA. HE REFUSES TO FILM IN THE USA OR USE THE AMERICAN FLAG AS PROMINENTLY AS THE "SPIDER-MAN" FILMS DO. SUPERMAN HAS BEEN A POSITIVE SYMBOL OF AMERICAN PROPAGANDA (AND THAT'S A GOOD THING!). Bryan Singer doesn't subscribe to that vision of Superman because of international marketing concerns. Give me a break! Another factor to the outcome of Superman Returns is the traits of the filmmaker: Bryan Singer is a gay man with a gay agenda. And, Kevin Spacey is a gay man with a gay agenda. (I'm sorry if that sounds offensive. I have no problem with gay people. They are chill peeps. And I have some gay friends. I just argue that Singer is not the right guy to champion Superman, because he approaches directing Superman as an outsider by drawing on his own experiences. Unfortunately, Singer has felt like an "outsider" during his life because of his homosexuality. Sorry, but that shouldn't apply to Superman!!!) He has openly admited that his two X-Men films (which I enjoyed) were loose allegories about how mutant persecution is similar to homosexual persecution on America. Now, some Marvel Comics writers admitted that there is some gay symbolism in X-Men comics (as well as obvious civil rights metaphors, etc,) so I won't argue that Singer's notions fit for that franchise. But for Superman,it doesn't apply. Bryan Singer referred to "Superman Returns" as a "chick flick." What the hell??? Superman movies should be action/sci-fi/adventure movies (with splashes of comedy and romance, yes), but not CHICK FLICKS!!!! What is this, Sex and the City? The chick flick comment adds to my argument that Singer is NOT the man to helm the Superman franchise. Also, gay rumors have followed Brandon (he previously went by "B.J." as his first name) Routh all the way about the actor's possible ambiguous homosexuality. There were on-set rumors that BOTH Singer and Spacey (who are old buddies from their "Usual Suspects" days) "fooled around" with Brandon Routh, who is a straight man (now married). Routh was supposedly pressured to "do things" to keep his job as Superman. TERRIBLE! Those may be completely false (I hope so!). But nonetheless, like how Richard Lester was ill-equipped as a British man to champion Supes the American hero in "Superman II", Bryan Singer is ill-equipped to control Superman films. Singer, a director who interjects his own personal issues into a series that they don't apply to, takes out the classic line "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" replacing it with "Truth, Justice, and ALL THAT OTHER STUFF" (wtf???). Singer is also ill-equipped to portray a convincing Superman/Lois love story, despite his desire to have Supes be a "chick flick." The chemistry between Routh and Bosworth was flat. There was no convincing desire or sexual tension. The love story was garbage. Singer needs to be replaced!Brandon Routh was a crappy Superman/Clark...stumbling about, trying to imitate Chris Reeve. Look at how GIRLY Routh looks! Uhhhhhh, yeah....this is the MANLY guy we want playing Superman??? Give me a break! This guy is NOT the right person for the job!!!!
