About Me

"the paramount joy of the craft is that, however simply it is begun, it can take the songwriter on a lifelong voyage across many distant and wondrous musical seas."
Jimmy Webb

Who is Wayne Brown?
Well the short answer is, I'm a songwriter, an old retired DJ, drummer, and observer of life. Life is an interesting thing that takes us on journeys through the lives of others. Sometimes it's smooth and sometimes it's rough. Right now I'm in the middle of another one of those journeys. However it ends there is sure to be a song or two that comes out of it. I just keep writing about life, love, winning, losing, sadness, joy, and anything else that comes along for the ride.
Artists, Producers, and Publishers who are seeking songs for their next project is the primary reason for the existence of this site. All of the writers I work with are passionate about this craft and we all hope to see the day when our songs will reach out to a wider audience through the voices of some of today's great singers and bands.
I've had a few songs cut over the years. Recorded by unknown indie artists who have managed to stay that way. But I have a truckload of confidence in my ability and skill as a writer. Sooner or later that first chart hit will come around.
Did I say short answer?
I am also an artist/photographer and a few samples of my work can be seen in my photo album. "Wolves with Elk" will soon be offered as a limited edition print, and I would be delighted if you have time to click on My pics and leave a comment.
This site is focused on networking with other songwriters to help each other improve our craft and get our songs out to a wider audience. If you are new to songwriting and find you have a real burning passion to write I suggest you get involved with learning this perplexing craft by joining groups like NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International) or on line forums such as JPF (Just Plain Folks) and start finding and hanging out with other writers in your area.
I have been in the music business since the late 60's when I began my broadcasting career as a DJ and newsman in Flint, Michigan. I began writing professionally in the mid 70's. In the early 80's, at the request of Dr. Art Bond, I served as the host for a series of songwriting workshops at John C. Calhoun Jr. College near Decatur, Alabama. Those workshops were the foundation of the schools Music Industries classes. Among my first students was another local (newspaper) Journalist and aspiring songwriter named Debbie Cochran. Debbie went on to write a holiday hit for Ronnie Milsap, and Collin Raye's hit "My Kind Of Girl". I was thrilled to see that song come into my broadcast booth in North Alabama with Debbie's name on it and then find myself being the first DJ in the nation to put her song on the air. It is extremely rewarding to feel that I played some small part in Debbie's early success.
Thanks to Caitlin Nicole Eadie for her cut on "The Treasure" Brown/Perry/Taylor/Devers.

FEATURED LYRIC
This is a new feature at WRB & Friends for songwriters to post their lyrics at this site. If you would like to post one of your songs to gain exposure we will review and post selected song lyrics. Just e-mail the song along with written permission for single use to post on this page and your song (lyric only) may go up for others to review. Please add a brief comment to suggest style and tempo such as: "Think Rodney Crowell, She's Crazy For Leavin" or Power Balled to give us a feel for the song.
Think old Motown up tempo
"Let Her Be Who She Wants To Be"
If you wanna win that girl
You're gonna have to out gun me
Let your battle flags unfurl
For a lesson in strategy
You're countin' on power and cash
Planning her captivity
Under your tyrant lash
But I intend to set her free
Chorus
If you wanna keep that girl
Let her be who she wants to be
She's a little too wild for you
What she needs is easy to see
If you wanna keep that girl
Let her be who she wants to be
She likes her whiskey straight
Don't hand her a champagne glass
Tryin' to mold your mate
I love her kind of class
Instrumental
Bridge
You want her prim She wants to dance
You want her proper Not a chance
If you wanna keep that girl
Let her be who she wants to be
Chorus out
