DJ Torus is recognized as one of the leading club DJs in Montreal. Known for her unique mixes and dynamic style that forbids any kind of rest during her performances, she is rapidly gaining popularity among partygoers and colleagues alike. It is no twist of luck if this female artist can often stand up face to face with the best performers Montreal has to offer.
Helen Pasborg was born in Kashmir, India of Danish and Seychelloise heritage. Having lived in Kenya and traveled half the globe to accompany her U.N. working family has proven to be a most essential influence on her musical tastes, as she was exposed to various genres and rhythms throughout her childhood and adolescence which ranged from disco’s eminent figures such as Barry White to Bob Marley’s deep Jamaican Reggae. She soon realized musical styles didn’t matter so much as their quality to touch people and make them move, wherever they lived in the world.
Drawn to the music scene early in her life, DJ Torus started playing music in high school events and private parties when she was 14 years old and has never since then doubted her artistic ambitions of becoming an internationally known performer. Her love for music was to be that of a lifetime, and she moved to Montreal in 1999 filled with the hopes of developing into a recognized artist. It did not take long for the culturally diverse metropolis to love her back, and Montreal was soon conquered by her spinning capabilities and positive attitude.
The private parties she was hosting regularly became more frequent and massive as she started appearing at different events and nightclubs across the city, thus leading to her first DJ Residency at one of Montreal’s top ten nightclubs, Club Parking. Propelled by a passionate hunger for greatness, it is at this venue that she successfully built a strong name for herself as DJ and promoter for their famous urban Thursday nights.
In the last year only, she has released 4 original mix tapes on her own Broken L record label, was voted number 10 club DJ in the Montreal Mirror Magazine 2006, has appeared in Être and Divers/Cité magazines as well as produced mixes for CIBL Urbainement Vôtre radio show. She has collaborated with Montreal based hip-hop group C-Click and has notably shared the stage with artists such as:-
OBIE TRICE, EMPIRE ISIS, Cazwell, LADY SAW
DJ's such as:- Quest, Shortcut, Special K, Blaster, Mahesh, Hill, Critical Hype, Goldenchild, Mo’Shun, Furious, Denox, Donald, Versatile, DJ Huggies, Spook, Groove and more.
DJ Torus is a solid MC with unique DJ skills, a singer as well as a music producer. Her music style is an adaptable, educated mix of Urban rhythms, although she can throw in a taste of House, Electro or even Rock when appropriate.
2007 is already looking promising for Torus as she gained her 1st INTERNATIONAL gig in Bretagne, France. She worked alongside the French company PINKEO and made friends with Europe's own Fubu DJ, DJ R-WAN. DJ Torus thus far has been interviewed by the following Montreal Radio Stations: K103.7fm, Choq Internet radio, CIBL Radio & CKUT Radio.
DJ Torus has already made her mark as one of MONTREAL's TOP URBAN DJs
Indeed, this journey has just begun.
