About Me

THE TRUE TALE OF THE DEVIL'S CASTLE

The Count of Ghent (Flanders, Belgium) has a son by the name of Gerard. On his 13 th birthday, his father has to leave on a crusade, but Gerard refuses to go with him to the Holy Land . He beats his father to death and from that moment of everyone calls him Gerard the Devil...

He builds a castle with a dark crypt and a Red Tower , where he lives with his wife and son, also named Gerard. The boy has a dark skin and black hair and that's why people call him The Moor.

Gerard the Devil dislikes the colour of his son's skin and hair. So he tortures his first wife to dead in the Red Tower , and his second, and his third, and fourth, and fifth, and sixth, and seventh wife too...

Gerard the Moor falls in love with a young girl that had to be wife number 8 of Gerard the Devil. 'Go to the Red Tower , my son,' says the father. 'I have arranged an overseas honeymoon for you!'

In the Tower there are two sailors waiting to tie up the hands and feet of Gerard the Moor, put him in a bag and throw him in the water. But the son doesn't trust the father and instead of him, it's Gerard the Devil himself who shows up in the Red Tower to pay the murderers. They mistake the Devil for the Moor and they put him in a bag and throw him in the water.

Gerard the Moor dies at the end of the 13 th century and since that moment, every 13 th year, in the Devil's Castle a child is born, as a true son of the Devil.

The castle is cursed, because the ghosts of father and son find no rest and haunt each other forever... There were many women found in the water near the Red Tower and a n old legend says that, before there will be peace in the Devil's Castle, 6 times 111 women have to fall or jump or have to be thrown from the Red Tower into the water, hands and feet tied together.

The castle is haunted too, because it was for many years a prison and an asylum for the very dangerous and mentally unsane.

THE MYSTERY OF THE DEVIL'S CASTLE

A singer-songwriter was fascinated by these true stories and adopted Gerard the Devil as his stage name. Some say he was the reborn Devil. Some say he made charcoal sketches of the impression on a girl's face at the moment she reached an orgasm (and that was the moment when he liked to chop off her head with a chainsaw).

The 'newborn' Gerard the Devil disappeared without leaving a trace… Couldn't he live with the idea of being a son of the Devil? Or did some lunatic with a chainsaw chopped off his head because he or she thought he really was the Devil? It's all up to you to find out in The Mystery of the Devil's Castle.

MEMOIRS OF LORD HALLOWEEN

Desiree D. was found in a derelict building nearby the Devil's Castle, together with the decapitated body of the poet also known as Lord Halloween. Miss D. handed over to the police a map, titled Memoirs of Lord Halloween and containing various poems. Miss D. said the motive for the ritual murder was to be found in the Memoirs. She resides now in a closed psychiatric facility. The head of Lord Halloween is still missing. You'll find the whole dark ballad, together with some great urban exploration pictures and free musical soundscapes here: Memoirs of Lord Halloween

Band Members: Geert Vilain is a young teacher who works in Ghent, in Flanders (the Dutch speaking part of Belgium). In his spare time, he is a singer-songwriter. His songs are a mix of old Flemish folk music, blues, the French chanson and strange musical soundscapes. He sings his very poetic, melancholic and sometimes "dark" lyrics in Dutch, French and English, and is soon labeled as a "poète maudit", who always writes about love and death. Geert is fascinated by old ballads about medieval serial killers, like the Flemish folk song The Ballad of Lord Halewyn or the English May Colven. He chooses Gerard the Devil as his stage name, because of an old gruesome folktale about the medieval Devil’s Castle where once lived, loved and died… a Lord of Ghent by the name of Gerard the Devil... ----- THE MYSTERY OF THE DEVIL’S CASTLE is an online murder & mystery game. You can play the game with nothing more than a personal computer and the multimedia and e-book downloads you’ll find in the Blog section. If you want to solve the mystery all by yourself, that’s fine. If you want to play the game with one team, that’s okay. If you are organizing a murder & mystery party or a teambuilding event, each player or each team has to have a personal computer or laptop... and there you go: who will be the first to solve the mystery? Maybe you are thinking about organizing a city game on a city trip to the old city of Ghent, Flanders, Belgium? That would be great! Need some advice? Do you want to have the solution before you start organizing the murder party or city game? Send us an email! ----- Visit my storefront to learn more
