Dario Cellamaro batteria Ideatore e leader del DARIO CELLAMARO "SWINGSUITE QUINTET" gruppo essenzialmente votato all'impronta dello swing più energico stile "be bop / hard bop". Da più di trent'anni nell'ambiente musicale di Varese e Milano, nasce il 19 ottobre 1957 a Cerignola (FG) ed inizia l'approccio con la batteria sin da bambino a quasi sette anni di età. Praticamente autodidatta per quasi dieci anni, dal 1977 al 1979 studia teoria e primi rudimenti jazzistici con il M° Carlo Sola, all'epoca primo batterista dell'Orchestra di Musica Leggera della RAI di Milano. Verso la fine del 1979 prosegue lo studio teorico e ritmico avvalendosi dei metodi per batteristi in quell'epoca scritti dal batterista e percussionista napoletano Tullio De Piscopo del quale ne diventa allievo e collaboratore partecipando ad innumerevoli festival jazz alternandosi anche sulle percussioni. Tra i suoi grandi ispiratori quali Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Kenny Klarke, una particolare predilezione è per il grande Art Blakey il quale rimane il suo principale punto di riferimento ed è fonte continua di forte ispirazione. Le sue collaborazioni come "side man" lo vedono al fianco di prestigiosi nomi del jazz italiano quali Gianni Basso, Massimo Urbani, Franco Cerri, Larry Nocella, Dado Moroni...e quelli stranieri fra i quali è il caso di citare Woody Shaw, Scott Hamilton, Gerry Mulligan, Danilo Perez, Slide Hampton, Harry "Sweet" Edison, Carl Fontana. Il suo primo lavoro discografico del 1996 "SWEET LOVE" nasce da una ballad scritta dallo stesso in memoria della madre appena scomparsa ed il lavoro riscuote un notevole successo di critica. Si susseguono le esibizioni in molti jazz club italiani e successivamente nell'ottobre 1996 l'incontro con il grande e mitico trombettista e flicornista CLARK TERRY con il quale registra il suo secondo CD da leader intitolato "CLARK TERRY MEETS DARIO CELLAMARO SWINGSUITE 5et - MANIPULITE ". Inizia così una collaborazione artistica con Clark Terry che parte con il tour dell'estate 1997 (data di uscita dell'album) dove saranno ospiti nei maggiori festival italiani. Nel 1998 Dario Cellamaro viene contattato da una nuova etichetta discografica che gli propone un nuovo lavoro al fianco del grande CLARK ed intanto nuovamente in studio nel 1998 producono un nuovo lavoro dal nome "SECOND TIME" Dario & Clark together again…..che vedrà la luce nei primi mesi del 1999. Nell'anno 2000, nella settimana che precede Natale, vola in U.S.A. invitato dal fraterno amico Clark Terry per il suo 80esimo compleanno. In quella circostanza si esibisce con i migliori musicisti americani (Ray Brown, Hank Jones, Lionel Hampton, Joe Henderson), rafforzando così, grazie ai consigli preziosi di questo mostri sacri del jazz mondiale, le sue conoscenza in quello splendido mondo del mainstream!! Nel 2001 comincia a lavorare per un progetto discografico in studio, che però viene rinviato al 2002 a beneficio della pubblicazione del suo primo CD "live" in occasione di un concerto tenuto a Cerignola il 12 maggio 2001 davanti ai suoi concittadini, coronando così il suo grande sogno di suonare nella sua città natale e dedicando alla sua cara mamma, il brano "Sweet Love". Il CD è stato pubblicato nel successivo mese di luglio 2001.Il CD, intitolato appunto "Child Dreams ", sarà poi oggetto di presentazione dei concerti estivi dello stesso anno 2001. Dal 2001 a tutt'oggi (2007) l'attività di Cellamaro, oltre che musicale in quanto ad esibizioni, è stata intensa soprattutto dal punto di vista discografico. Tre CD pubblicati ("NinnaNannaNino" nel 2003, "Simo's fun" nel 2005 ed un CD contenente una raccolta "live" intitolata " ... MY JAZZ LIVE collection" pubblicato in ottobre 2007 che contiene il meglio di dieci anni di concerti che questo gruppo ha tenuto nel territorio nazionale in jazz club e jazz festival).
Durante questi anni, oltre all'attività di side-man, ha comunque continuato principalmente l'attività di band-leader del suo Swingsuite e nel novembre 2007 ha registrato un concerto presso il Teatro Trivulzio di Melzo che ha poi integralmente pubblicato nel successivo mese di giugno 2008. Il CD, nono della serie, è intitolato "SAMIRA" e prende il titolo dall'omonima ballad scritta dallo stesso Cellamaro.
- BIOGRAPHY Dario Cellamaro, is the creator and leader of the "SWINGSUITE QUINTET" which carries his name and follows the energetic "be bop/hard bop" swing style. He has been on the northern Italy musical scene for more than twenty years and has lived in Varese since 1977. He was born on the 19th of October 1957 in Cerignola(Foggia-Italy) and started playing the drums when just seven years old. Basically a self taught man for ten years, from 1977 to 1979 he studied first jazz rudiments with Carlo Sola who in that period was first drummer in RAI TELEVISION Milano Orchestra. At the end of 1979 he went on with theoretical and rhythmical studies following the drummers methods written in those days by Tullio De Piscopo who he meets in 1973 to then become his pupil in 1977 and then trusted collaborator. He has performed with the great Neapolitan drummer in numerous jazz events between 1990 and 1994 in small clubs and city squares in Lombardy, Liguria, Marche, Piedmont, Tuscany and Veneto. In the same years he carried on his "side-man" activity, collaborating with prestigious Italian jazz performers (FRANCO CERRI, MASSIMO URBANI, GIANNI BASSO, RENATO SELLANI, LARRY NOCELLA, DADO MORONI.....). He also collaborated with international jazz artists such as GERRY MULLIGAN, WOODY SHAW, SCOTT HAMILTON, DANILO PEREZ, TONY SCOTT, SLIDE HAMPTON, HARRY "sweet" EDISON, and CARL FONTANA. In 1994 Dario Cellamaro decides to begin a hard work dedicated pretty much exclusively to his 'SWINGSUITE' project. All this work is not in vain as just two years later he releases his first Album as leader of this formation. The CD, "SWEET LOVE", is named after a ballad written by Cellamaro in memory of his recently deceased mother, and it has a considerable success with the critics. This is followed by the band's performing in many Italian jazz clubs and then in 1996 by the icing on the cake of an already brilliant career!! The meeting in a recording studio with the great trumpet and flugehorn player CLARK TERRY with whom he records his second Album as the leader of Swingsuite. It is titled: CLARK TERRY meets Dario Cellamaro Swingsuite 5et - "MANIPULITE". It is not only the beginning of an artistic collaboration but also of a great friendship between Dario Cellamaro and Clark Terry, which results in a second CD recorded in 1998 and titled "SECOND TIME". There will also be three years of touring around Italy between 1997 and 1999, during which Cellamaro and Terry perform in the prestigious jazz festivals of Mosciano Sant'Angelo - Stresa - Castelfranco Veneto - and others, amongst which the first ever Andria (BA) jazz festival which in that year saw the presence of artists like Jimmy Owens and Lee Konitz. The year 2000 is very satisfying for Cellamaro, but its highlight comes in the week preceding Christmas. He flies to the United States on invitation by his fraternal friend Clark Terry who is celebrating his 80th birthday. For the occasion he performs alongside the best American musicians (amongst them are RAY BROWN, HANK JONES, LIONEL HAMPTON, and JOE HENDERSON), strengthening, thanks to the advise from these world jazz greatest, his knowledge of the fantastic world of 'mainstream' jazz!!!!! In 2001 he releases a live CD titled "CHILD DREAMS" and performs in many concerts. From 2001 until now (2007), Dario Cellamaro had a lot of performances but above all ha was very active in recording studio both musician and composer. Three CD published: "NinnaNannaNino" in 2003, "Simo's fun" in 2005 and a live collection titled "Dario Cellamaro... MY JAZZ LIVE collection", published in october 2007 with the best of last ten years with his "SWINGSUITE 5et" in jazz clubs and jazz festivals. During these years, Cellamaro is gone on with his quintet performing in jazz festivals and teathres. Last November 2007 he recorded with his quintet a concert at TRIVULZIO TEATHRE in MELZO (Milan), publishing a new CD in June 2008 titled "SAMIRA" from a ballad written by himself.
