Maria V., born Maria McGill to an African-American father and a Filipino mother, is the sixth of seven children. As a youth, Maria was a prodigy; she compiled a series of academic accolades and graduated from high school when she was 16 years old. Throughout the formidable years, Maria used writing as an escape. She wrote poetry, short stories, songs, and other forms of factual literature about her life. Writing is Maria’s second love, but music is her first; she was singing before she could form sentences. At age 4, Maria joined the Northside Seventh Day Adventist Church choir and became a member of her family’s gospel group. She went on to perform in talent shows, stage productions, concerts, and showcases.
In March of 2006, Maria met hip-hop artist Michael Muncie a.k.a Zbra. Michael arranged a meeting between Maria and Dat Heat Productions, an independent Arkansas-based music production company. She immediately jelled with the artists and producers of Dat Heat. The first meeting turned into a session; she wrote and began recording “Make a Moveâ€, one of the songs that will appear on her debut album. Since aligning with Dat Heat, Maria has performed in several shows and built a fan base of thousands.
Never complacent with her accomplishments, Maria strives to set the bar higher with each song and performance. Currently, she is working on several projects including an R&B mixtape, a debut album, and a regional tour. Maria’s talent and determination fused with Dat Heat Production’s phenomenal sound is a formula for sheer success.
