Words By Kenyetta 'Native' McKinney
Take the vocals of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, the heartfelt emotions of Mary J Blige, the swagger of Beyoncé and the iconic status of Janet Jackson, and you have in the makings all of the aforementioned, 20 something year old, multi-talented singer and songwriter, West Indian beauty and Long Island native, Natasha Joe. Proving that she is more than just another pretty face, Joe, who began her musical journey at the ripe ol’ age of 7-years old, while singing wherever opportunity presented itself—be it the ‘school hallways,’ ‘on the block,’ or in talent shows, used those avenues to conjure up confidence, that eventually poised her for her journey into the wonderful world of the music business.
With the help of a supportive parent base, Natasha Joe, admits that her parents helped her sign her first management and independent record label contract, and while throughout her journeys in the music realm, Joe has worked with several people, it is her manager, Tina Erwin, in which whom she has a reverence and ‘adores,’ not only because of her ‘on point’ management methodologies, but because of her belief in Joe as not only as a singer, but as a superb songwriter. As a collective unit, they have learned that in a predominantly male dominated industry, compromising—be it talent, integrity or the art form, is not an option, nor is settling, which shows immeasurably through Joe’s body of work. “There are so many creative and talented artists, and everyone’s journey is different. I want to bring you into my world and show you what I see and what I feel and understand who Natasha Joe really is.â€
While her star is just beginning to shine and come full circle, Natasha Joe is positioning herself to take the industry by storm, and lay claim to her positional stance in an industry that she has not only been faithful to and patiently courted, but has paid dues into the ‘sacrificial’ musical offering plate, and is now ready to collect on her silver lining that awaits her, for her years of dedication and loyalty. She has worked alongside industry insiders such as; Mark Morales (Prince Markie Dee of the legendary Fat Boys), AZ (of the platinum selling rap group, The Firm), Smoothe Da Hustler (Broken Language fame), Monopville, DJ Chief Rocka, Baby Paul, G.I. Joe, Troy Oliver, Greg Bruno, Cardiff Giants, Ricky Myrie, Ce’Cile, and DJ Dummy (DJ for rapper, Common), and as she continues her evolution to greatness, her list will continue to expand. Joe has also had numerous articles, including being featured in Grind Mode Magazine as ‘Next Up’ and Urban Entertainment TV, and it is no surprise that Yo MTV! Raps veteran and New York City radio host, Ed Lover, paid Joe a unique compliment, stating; “Your music is by far the best I’ve heard on MySpace…keep up the good work,†and Jim Edmunds, A & R for J Records, cited Joe as being ‘hot’ and ‘truly talented.’
If there is ever anyone whose beautiful, humble aura, though unbeknownst, exudes superstar status in the making…it is Natasha Joe…the artist, singer, songwriter, and the future embodied icon. Get to know the name, because she is truly up next.
