David was born in Lockney Texas on August 2, 1959. Davids background in music is somewhat of a family tradition. His father "Dorsey" Gene McKnight enjoyed a musical career as a guitarist, performing as accompaniment for the world renowned fiddle champion Uncle John Wills (1946-52)(otherwise known as Bob Wills father), as well as performing with talents such as Jimmy Dean (1953-58). David began to display his musical talents at the age of 9, when he discovered his natural affinity for percussion. He quickly developed his talent, and had begun playing professionally by age 13. He attended high school in Lubbock Texas, where he quite often found himself playing shows at night, while still attending classes during the day. He spent a good deal of time touring after High School in both the U.S. and Canada. During this period, David had the opportunity to work with such notables as Rufus Thomas, Bob White, and James Cotton. In 1984 David decided to focus his creative energies on songwriting and production. Over the past two decades his catalogue has grown to include over three thousand songs that span the musical spectrum from Southern Gospel to Alternative Rock. His efforts have led to a number of successful recordings by artists such as The Moffatts, Coco Montoya, Debbie Davies, and Gary P. Nunn. Davids artistic contributions are not limited solely to the music industry, as he has also worked extensively in the film industry. He has held a number of positions, (including that of locations manager), on various features such as "Biloxi Blues" and "Tuskegee Airmen". David is also an artistic consultant for On-Sight Photography; a small north Texas based Photography Company specializing in promotional photography for musicians and artists. David McKnight lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and is happily married to his wife Rita of 24 yrs. He has a son (Dustin 27), and a daughter (Chelsea 23), and is a proud grandfather of an energetic 6 year old named Austin. David is a partner in ARM Band Publishing BMI, Creative Director for Frizzell Mgmt & Promotion International, Inc., and of course David continues to build his ever expansive song catalog.
