"Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" Wins Album of the Year at ACM's
Miranda Lambert took home Album of the Year honors for her critically acclaimed sophomore effort “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend†when the Academy of Country Music Awards were handed out Sunday, May 18 live in Las Vegas.
As a newer artist with somewhat limited success on the country airplay chart, Miranda was certain Kenny Chesney would be taking home the album of the year prize at the ACMs.
"I've never had a Top 10 hit, so I just kind of ruled out album of the year," she said. "Just being nominated for it was amazing."
However, Lambert's album sales have been surprisingly high in the absence of a huge hit at radio.
"I've been really blessed to walk the fine line between being critically acclaimed and also having commercial success -- because that's rarely done," she said. "I always reference the Dixie Chicks and Dwight Yoakam for doing that." Giving special credit to her album producers, Frank Liddell and Mike Wrucke, Lambert said, "I'm so appreciative for people to accept me for what I am. I am a little left of center, and I surround myself with people who think that way. Because of those people, they say to me that it's OK to be who I am."
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, debuted at 1 on the Nielsen SoundScan Country Chart and 6 on the Top 200 Albums Chart. The album also entered the country digital albums chart at 1.
Cause for the Paws:
Big Success Brings Huge Numbers
We are thrilled to annouce that Miranda's first charity event, Cause For The Paws, brought in $113,000.00 profit for the Humane Society of East Texas. Beverly Lambert and Gayle Helms, surrounded by 8 dogs at the shelter, wept with joy as the final tally was tabulated. Miranda had the following comments for her official press release regarding the event and the contribution.
"I would like to thank Gayle Helms at the Humane Society of East Texas for inviting me to be a part of the first charity event for the shelter. Cause for the Paws was a huge success for so many reasons! The committee that put it together was amazing and KE Cellars and the food vendors did an awesome job. The Villa di Felicita is the most beautiful place ever, period. The volunteers were organized and made everything look easy and flow smoothly. Also those who donated for the auctions were more than generous, including my friends in the entertainment community. A special thanks to my friends, Blake Shelton, Adam Hood and Kacey Musgraves for giving of their time and adding great music. God topped it off with a beautiful day! The event took on a life of it's own and Delilah and I felt so honored to be a part of it. A heartfelt thank you goes out to those who bought tickets, the sponsors and everyone who contributed in any way to help the abused and abandoned animals of East Texas."
