About Me

GROUP OF MOORISH WOMEN, ALGERIA, AFRICA.
The splendid drama of the Moors... whose numbers have degenerated, yet occasionally in Morocco and Algeria one sees some Moors whose forms and faces seem not unworthy of their glorious past. A peculiarity of their dwellings even now is the horse-shoe arch, which was represented in the magnificent Mosque of Cordova in Spain and in the courts of the Alhambra.
Moorish History of the Corsica Flag
The Testa di Moru, the black Moor's head on a white background forms the national flag of Corsica and also the official emblem of independent Corsica.
The Moor's head with a white bandeau was adopted by Pasquale Paoli in 1762. Paoli (1725-1807) was a Corsican general and patriot who struggled for Corsican independence, first against Genua and later against France.
The symbol harks back to the period when Corsica had been controlled by Moors (850 to 1034). It was inherited from the kings of Aragon, who were invested with Corsica by the Pope in the Middle Ages.
Why is this important?
In November 1755, Pasquale Paoli proclaimed Corsica a sovereign nation, independent from the Republic of Genoa. He created the Corsican Constitution, which was the first (European) constitution written under Enlightenment principles, including the first (European) implementation of female suffrage, later revoked by the French when they took over the island in 1769.
The republic created an administration, justice system, and founded an army. After a series of successful actions Paoli drove the Genoese from the whole island except for a few coastal towns. He then set to work to reorganize the government, introducing many reforms.
"He wrote a Constitution for his fledgling nation that inspired the framers of the American Constitution - indeed, several towns in the US are named after Paoli"
Think About It...
The writing is on the wall. The United States of America gives credit to Paoli for drafting the original idea for the American Constitution, but Paoli chose to use the head of a Moor on his flag.
FLAGS ARE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT REPRESENTATIONS of a sovereign nation. Why would the "father of the constitution" dedicate his nation's flag to the head of a Moor if he did not have some sort of influence on his actions, or more importantly, was not the source of his political and sovereign knowledge?
