ANNA LAUVERGNAC

About Me

Born in Trieste, Italy.
I received a diploma as a primary school teacher, worked as anything else (carpenter, cook, bartender, english teacher, cleaning woman, promoter, model, baby sitter, telephone operator, cloakroom attendant, jazz educator, film music composer etc etc etc. I can't stand lists.)
I studied with Jazz Greats Jay Clayton, Mark Murphy, Sheila Jordan, Andy Bey, Reggie Workman and Barry Harris.
Lived for few years in Graz to attend the music university, moved for few years to Vienna to attend as many concerts as possible at the legendary jazz club Porgy and Bess. Spent quite some time in New York Paris and Berlin and since I couldn't make up my mind about where to move, I started a nomadic life, spending the last 5 winters traveling in Asia and touring Europe in summer/fall.
Performed among others with Franco Vallisneri, Andy Bey, Francesco Forges, Paolo Fresu, Bumi Fian, Andy Scherrer, Marc Buronfosse, Till Martin, Bojan Zulfikarpasic, Pete Bernstein, Claus Raible, Alegre Corrèa, Andrea Allione, Wolfgang Puschnig, Mauro Negri, Bruno Cesselli, Glauco Venier, Florian Bramboeck, Hank Gradischnig, Karl Sayer, Fritz Pauer, John Di Martino, Willi Resetarits, Julien Lourau, Oliver Kent, Roman Schwaller, Stjepko Gut ect etc etc, I still can't stand lists.
From 1999 to 2007 I've been the vocalist of Mathias Ruegg's Vienna Art Orchestra (www.vao.at) which gave me the chance to perform on a couple of hundreds jazz festivals around the world (Umbria Jazz, Montreal, Havanna, Vancouver, Berlin, Guimares, Paris, Varna, Madrid, Moskaw, Essen, Kiev, Vilnius, Vienna, Moers, Victoria, Le Mans, Nord Sea JazzFestival, Zurich, Joragua do Sul, Joinville, Hamburg, Beijing, Oporto, Amsterdam, Saragozza, Belfast, Victoria, Zagreb, Lugano, Brugge, Orleans, Salamanca, Luzern, Budapest, Berlin, Munich, Bolzano, Nevers, Red Sea Jazz Festival, Barcelona, London, Luxenburg, Auxerre, San Sebastian, Essen, Prag, Couches, Granada, Sevilla, Junas, Sarajevo, Bergen, Lisbona, Berchidda, Basel etc etc etc...)
I wrote six soundtracks for the austrian director Xaver Schwarzenberger, lyrics for different bands and projects, and few songs.
In the last years I've been studying Yoga, Shintaido and Vipassana Meditation
I don't eat meat.

Sounds Like: ..."It is undeniably jazz but, though the songs belong entirely to the New World, the Modernism on display seems to evoke the capital cities of the Old.This is not to imply an abstract intellectualism, merely to point out that Lauvergnac is no “mimic” and brings to the record a persona that does not care to hide its geographical and cultural origins."
