SHIT-KICKING FOOT STOMPERS
[Spearman] concentrates on playing old-time string band music that predates the popularization of bluegrass in the 1940's. Despite the sparseness of the sound, this is shit-kicking, foot-stomping music full of vitality. It's surprisingly more complex than it initially sounds- honest roots music that's played with a mix of panache and precision.

...Entrancing, hypnotic renderings- bluesy sliding fiddles; cluckin,' clankin' banjos; pulsing guitars; and rockin' rhythmic bass string snaps. The pace is brisk, the mood is lively, while occasionally the vocals are rendered with a "dirty-mic" effect that adds an overall vintage sound. There's still more gold in them thar hills, but this time it comes with a little pork on the side.
