For me it started all back in 1996 when Wim and Reggy asked me to sing at a local carnival festivity. They played acoustic guitar, we did some covers, dressed like wanderers playing for e fee. It was fun and we were surprised being asked to play again at another festivity. After that we seriously thought of forming a real band. Coincidently I met Jacques at a party. He had played lead guitar in Paralysis and had just sold his Marshall set. But he was willing to try and play with us. At fist a weird combination: acoustic guitars and a metal guitarist. But we got along fine and called our band ‘Storm’. All we needed now was a drummer and after finding Roland we were a complete band. We played rock and grunge covers, with some acoustic songs at the side. Reggy started playing the bass; we had no need for 3 guitarists. Roland was replaced by Mario which started a period of improvement and a growing set list. In 1999 we opened for Dutch pride of rock’n’roll ‘Golden Earring’, and in 2001 for another Dutch headliner ‘Normaal’. Unfortunately Jacques quit the band this same year. In young Alex we found a good new lead guitarist. A new set list and lots of gigs: promising period for Storm. It went quite well, but in 2003 Mario decided to quit, tired he was of playing rock covers. We carried on – back to our roots – playing the same covers in acoustic version without drums. But after a few gigs, Alex left the band and Storm was where it began: Wim, Reggy and me, without a lead guitarist and a drummer. In 2004 we were surprised by a phone call from Jacques. He wanted to make music again. So we started jamming and at the first session – when we played the old covers – we decided to try and create our own material. The second jam session we recorded two songs that I had in the back of my head for some time: The Code and Punk. The next session we added two more: Evolution After Party and Last Supper. The enthusiasm grew and more songs were recorded for our first demo. We ended up with 15 songs, of which 12 ended on the album we were about to record. Late 2006 we started the recordings at Jacques’ home studios at St. Jansteen with Koos de Waal on drums. One more – acoustic - track was added as a hidden track. Jacques did the production, the mixing and mastering him self, with some help from the other members. It took several months, loads of coffee (for me), lots of cigarettes, sweat and tears, but we managed to get a very good and promising debut album. Wim – mostly – and I worked on the artwork and created a booklet very worth while (as you can see below the ’band-in-car’ picture). The album release was planned for 22 September at Porgy and Bess in Terneuzen and was a great success. Today, Stone Dust is, with new drummer Stefan Simons, busy working on new very promising material…
