COME STAND IN THE FIRE

About Me

At times The Floors make you feel as if you have slipped back to the dust and sweat of the Sunbury music festival, or into the dim Smoky surroundings of an old Chicago blues bar. Yet there’s a raw and exciting sound that demands your attention, snapping you up and propelling you forward into a new era of music. Based in Perth, Western Australia, The Floors consist of brothers Luke Dux on guitar, harmonica and lead vocals, Ryan Paul Dux on electric and double bass and Iain Cavill on drums and percussion sounds. The members initially started playing together as a blues band, before officially creating The Floors in 2004. Their first self titled EP was released in 2004, and their Borrowed EP a year later as a joint Perth and Sydney independent label release. The single “Borrowed” reached No. 32 on the WA charts and also featured on the 2006 Kiss My WAMi CD Compilation.Psychedelic guitars, jungle rhythms, furious bass lines and a no-such-thing-as-too-loud attitude has seen The Floors build a reputation as a strong and energetic live band. Despite being relatively new to the live scene, The Floors have still taken their live show across the country four times, including Newcastle’s Strikeback festival in 2006. The band have supported acts such as The Angels, The Choir Boys, Ian Moss, Magic Dirt, Thirsty Merc, Love Outside Andromeda, the Kill Devil Hills and The Stems as well as scoring a spot on the Converse stage at Perth’s 2005 Big Day Out.With a bunch of new songs well rehearsed on stage, The Floors headed into Sumo Sound Studios earlier this year to record their third EP, “Welcome to the Big House”. Full creative control of the recording process allowed the band to experiment with percussion and other alternative sounds such as boot stomping and chain gang vocals. The single, “This Is Not A Revolution” was launched in October to an enthusiastic 300 plus crowd, followed by “Welcome to the Big House” which was released on the 23rd November in Perth and is set for an 2008 east coast launch.- written by Kari Shelton
