BtB is Luke, CJ and Josh. We enjoy good food, watching TV with our mums and getting good grades. In our spare time, we adopt loud instruments and pay homage to rock greats like The Ramones, Dead Kennedy’s, Spiderbait, NoFX, Green day, The Beatles, Drop Kick Murphy's, Queen and many more.
Stage pleasantries rapidly deteriorate into frenzied drum thumping opening beats, leading to a punked up version of Mary’s adopted sheep friend, who ends up religions unfortunate sacrificial lamb. Teenage angst, Bush’s ‘real’ age, and the resolution of teenage institutional rebellion with uncontrollable all-out food warfare are just some of the topics in our original material.
As Bigger Than Belgium we have played at numerous events including Heatwave/545, Skate competitions and parks, Jimboomba Battle of the Bands, Tsunami benefit gigs, RSL and Kooralbyn Resort functions as well as several other fund raisers. Some of the bands we have shared a stage with include Monnkiblood, A Name Will Come, Each Revolving Door, Elijah, Both Ends Burning, Samsara, Nine Iron and Torn Asunder.
BtB is hard rock in the touch of bizarre, a pinch of goofy, and a strong sociopolitical and environmental undercurrent. A variety of topics feature in much of our music in a style we affectionately call Fun Punk. The name Bigger Than Belgium is actually a unit measuring the level of environmental damage and was used to measure the size of the world’s largest and iciest floater, which was Bigger Than Belgium, in the 1956.
There has since been an iceberg 22 times Bigger Than Belgium. Global warming is set to produce even bigger icy floaters in the South Pacific. Music gives us a voice and a weapon. Which weapon will you choose??
