Josh was born into a musical family and trained as a violinist from a young age. After moving on to the more unique and versatile mandolin and gaining recognition as one of the premier young mandolinists in the high-stakes, cut throat arena that is the midwest bluegrass festival circuit, he joined up with innovative singer/songwriter Jennifer Lynn Smith, rounding out her Kansas City based band Song of Zion. Their mix of contemporary Christian lyrics with skillful musicianship has been entertaining coffeehouses and Christian concert stages for almost two years.
While playing and recording with Song of Zion, Josh began writing songs for his own indie project, On My Way, which might come out sometime in spring '08. Maybe. The album showcases his technique on the mandolin and his vibrant songwriting style as he trades chops with flatpicking guitarists from throughout the midwest.
Right now Josh is working on a small side project, writing, singing, and playing all the songs himself and recording them in his humble, macintosh-equipped basement. He hopes that this project will expand his musical breadth and that he can use it in conjunction with his solo album to create a presence both online and around the KC area.
