About Me

Helgi Valur sgeirsson was born 1979 on the 30th of January in Sweden. A year after that his road led to Hverageri in Iceland where he grew up listening to the trubador music of Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens. As time passed Helgi learned to play guitar and was a guitar player in various bands. In the year 2000 Helgi began his singing career as he came in 2nd runner up in a singing contest for high schools. There he sang Jeff Buckleys version of Leonard Cohens Hallelujah. Apart from Buckley Helgis influences are to name a few Saul Williams, Will Oldham, Nick Drake, Fiona Apple and Elliot Smith. In the summer of 2004 Helgi Valur tried his luck busking on the streets of Copenhagen and Malm with much prays from Skandinavians. At the end of the summer Helgi returned with experience to last a lifetime and won the well known trubador contest of channel 2. The grand prize In that competition was a guitar and also a trip and a gig at Icelands trubador festival at Neskaupsstaur. There Helgi caught the ear of the audience and two of those ears belonged to Jn lafsson (Icelands most famous producer) who realized the magic that was taking place. They formed a friendship and after playing together yet apart at a number of concerts it was decided that Jn would produce his first album. Soon a record contract with Dennis records followed and on the 30th of may,2005 Helgis first solo album "Demise of Faith was released. In the year 2006 Helgi got sick of the James Bluntisation of trubadourism and decided that a new voice was needed in the world of music. He decided to work on a postmodernist project called "The black man is GOD, the white man is the devil. Within days of recording his first tracks people responded to his vision. Helgi was to become the first trubadour rapper of the world covering classics such as Snoops "Gin and Juice" and 2pacs "Life goes on".
