Victoria Griffin

The fantasy and fairy art of Victoria Griffin.

About Me

I am an artist, photographer, occasional beach bum, former radio DJ and long-time Pagan/Animist. My work has been featured on the covers of "Aquarius: A Sign of the Times" and "The Circle of Stones Journal". Some of my art can also be seen in the books 500 Fairy Motifs and Visions of Atlantis (both published in 2005), as well as the book Art of the Business of Fantasy Art: Volume I (published in 2007). I'm 1/2 Finnish, 1/16 Irish, with some Welsh, French, German, Scottish and a bit of Cherokee and Roma (Gypsy) thrown in to round it all out nicely. I live out in the Carolina countryside with my husband, two little ferrets (Noodle and Nibblet), one extremely spoiled cat (Bronte), a python named Monty and a boa named Voodoo.

My Interests

Fairy art, fantasy art, gothic art, horror and surrealism (Brian Froud, H.R. Giger, Edward Gorey and Mark Ryden are some of my favorite artists). Photography, music, films, writing, reading and cooking. Fairies, myths and folklore. Interior decorating and design. Collecting tarot decks, windchimes and blown-glass perfume bottles. The ocean. Cats, ferrets, owls, lizards, frogs and snakes.

I'd like to meet:

Artists, poets, writers, photographers, musicians, philosophers and free-thinkers are always welcomed here.

Stuff you should know about me:

* I've already met the man of my dreams. In fact, we've been together for 16 years now. He makes me very happy and spoils me rotton. Ain't lookin'.

* I'm rather lousy about replying to comments and messages. Even worse about giving them. Fact is that I've got over 600 people on my "friends" list, so...uhhh...yeah. There simply isn't enough time in the day. Please don't take it personally.

* I'm quite comfortable with my spiritual beliefs, my political beliefs, my lifestyle and my general world-view. It's taken me many years of personal soul-searching and life-experience to reach this point. I'm not interested in being converted over to someone else's point of view...attempting to do so would be a gigantic waste your time and mine. Just so you know. ;)

* My life, for as far back as I can remember, has never been conventional. I'm a free spirit and a bit of a nomad. I have a weird sense of humor (often laughing at stuff that ought not be laughed at). I'm a nerd. I'm a geek. I'm addicted to music. And art supplies, electronics and books make me sweaty.

* I hate rude people. I hate rude people who spam. I hate rude people who ask creepy, way-too-personal questions. I hate rude people who try to mooch free art off me. I really, REALLY hate rude stalkers (and you know who YOU are). I also hate green beans...those things are seriously nasty. :)

* I value intelligence. People who lack common sense and do the same stupid thing over and over again (expecting a different result each time) really piss me off.

Bill 'n Opus in '08, y'all...peace out!

Music:

Right now it's ALL about the metal, baby! Queensryche, Godsmack, Alice In Chains, Ozzy, Rob Zombie, The Cult, Danzig, Motley Crue, Dokken, Ratt, Winger, Tool, Vixen, Warlock and Dethklok!

I also dig: Rush, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Imogen Heap, Tori Amos, Loreena McKennitt, Bel Canto, Dead Can Dance, Enigma, Depeche Mode, The Cure, U2, Nickelback, Daughtry, A Perfect Circle, Massive Attack, Lacuna Coil, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Tantric, Weird Al, Tom Petty, Tears For Fears, Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys, October Project, Type O Negative, Incubus, Graeme Revell, Gjallarhorn, etc.

I could go on, but it would probably take all day. Basically, if it involves metal (especially trashy 80's hairmetal), goth, new rock, classic rock, new age, electronica or 80's pop and new wave...then it's totally my kind of music. ;)

Movies:

Labyrinth, Mirrormask, Dark Crystal, Legend, Tristan and Isolde, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Brahm Stoker's Dracula, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Donnie Darko, Chronicles of Riddick, The 5th Element, Sleepy Hollow, Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Charley and the Chocolate Factory, Heavy Metal, Addam's Family Values, LoTR, Harry Potter, Office Space, Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Foxfire, Pan's Labyrinth, The Fountain, Drop Dead Gorgeous.

Television:

LOST!!!!! (I am a friggin' "Lost" fanatic), Battlestar Galactica, 24, CSI: Vegas, CSI: Miami, South Park, Ghost Hunters, Reno911, La Femme Nikita, Design Star, Family Guy, Squidbillies, Metalocalypse, Korgoth of Barbaria, Robot Chicken, Drawn Together and all kinds of nerdy stuff on the Science and Nat'l Geographic channels.

Books:

"American Gods", Stardust", "Neverwhere", "Smoke and Mirrors" and anything else by Neil Gaiman (the man is a literary god!)..."Books of Blood/Cabal" - Clive Barker...Lovecraft..."The Stand" - Stephen King..."Mists of Avalon" - Marion Zimmer Bradley..."A Wrinkle in Time" - Madeleine L'Engle..."Jane Eyre" - Charlotte Bronte..."The Hot Zone" - Richard Preston..."Snow White, Blood Red" and "The Fairy Reel" - a collection of modern fairytales edited by Terri Windling...Grimm Fairytales..."Drawing Down The Moon" - Margot Adler...the "His Dark Materials" series by Phillip Pullman.

Heroes:

* My very bestfriend, soul-twin and long-time partner in crime: Michael. A man who squeezed absolutely every possible drop out of life and love during the tragically short time he was given on this planet. He lost his battle to cancer on October 2, 2003 at the age of 33. "If love alone could have saved you, you would have lived forever." Rest in peace, my friend...I'll see you on the Other Side.

* My husband for being such a brilliant, funny, kind, sexy and patient man. ;)

* My awesome family and friends for all of their encouragement, critiques, support and general silliness.

* Carl Sagan for making me doubt. Brian Froud for making me believe. Neil Gaiman for making me wonder.

* And especially the Faeries.
