Poor Poet

THIS IS "SPOKEN BEAT"

About Me

Born in the Bronx and raised in Mount Vernon, New York Jamel “Bo” Stringer has been involved with performing arts most of his life. Attending a performing arts middle school where he received training in theatre, acting and directing. Upon entering Mount Vernon High School he studied TV production for three years while producing and directing multiple public access programs for himself and a variety of people including Mayor Ernest Davis. After graduating he went on to work in the music industry for companies and artists such as Roc-a-fella Records, MC Hammer and Ruff Ryders Entertainment. In 2001 his camera work on the DVD release of “Fitness from the Streets-Thug Workout” catapulted him into the director chair for commercials and other independent projects. Today Bo is a passionate poet, songwriter, musician and director. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- Donovan Hemmings was born in Manhattan, New York on November 23rd 1978. By the time he had moved to Mount Vernon, New York at the age of 4 it was clear that he had a way with words. His talent landed him in leading roles in local community center and school plays. In high school he matured into the artist known as Don P. Furthering his education at Clark Atlanta University Don P took a snowball and created an avalanche. There his words garnered him notoriety in spoken word houses throughout the city of Atlanta. He even graced the cover of the 2001 Clark Atlanta University yearbook. Since then Don P has continued his journey in delivering poetry to the masses; specializing in many styles of poetry including free verse, acrostic, heroic couplet and quatrain to name a few. Known as one of the most prolific poets of his time, Don P is taking new strides with his career. Along with Bo Davis the two have formed the synergy Poor Poet. Together these men intend to change the face of poets for years to come. Determined to launch a new genre of music titled spoken beat, Poor Poet is releasing their first independent album “Open Soul Surgery.” ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------- Pete Monsanto was born in Manhattan (Washington Heights), New York on June 21st, 1980 (The Original 80’s Baby... Smack in the middle of the year on the longest day.) First son to renown Harlem Hustler Peter Monsanto. "The Stupid Genius" (as he has been dubbed) spent his adolescent years of growth in the Northeast Section of the The Bronx on Gun Hill Road. The 2nd stage of his life was spent in Mount Vernon; with 4 sisters and 2 brothers the family moved to Mount Vernon in 1985. In 1991, Mr. Poetic relocated back to the Bronx for 5 years during one of the most turbulent times in his life. At this point his love for writing was discovered. In 1995 from a twin bed mattress in a Homeless Shelter in the South Bronx he penned his first poem. It was a 8-page Manifesto about Love and Losing His Virginity at the age of 15. Keeping his talent hidden and only using it for personal release of emotion. P.I. continued to write about any and everything that was on his mind. Most of the works were penned on a crowded 2 train in New York City’s Subway system. By the age of 22, he hit the stage for the first time at Iona College alongside a well known poet in New Rochelle (Evita Robinson aka "Evierobbie"). Fast Forward to January 4th, 2008 almost 6 years later P.I. became acquianted with Don P. and Bo Davis through a mutual friend (as they are from the same town) at a local open mic in Mount Vernon. That night P.I. opened his own soul to bare his wounds by spitting a piece called "The Last 77" in which both Bo and Don decided "Mr. Poetic Injustice" needed to be added to Poor Poet... AND THEN THERE WERE 3!!! ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------
