Overflowing with sincerity, heart, harmony and tradition, Pete Ross has blended the genres of country, roots, and folk music to tastefully create his debut solo album, Six String Suicide. The latter genre is filled with authentic character by the contribution and inspiration of Pete's father, Peter Ciani, a popular and much respected singer/songwriter.
As the album title, Six String Suicide suggests, Pete is opening his doors and baring all with his own tales of hope, happiness, sorrow and thanks, whilst paying homage to some of his musical mentors, Bob Dylan and the late Lee Hazlewood, as well as respecting his roots by recording a version of the traditional Sicilian folk song, Sciuri Sciuri. From the uplifting, celebratory tunes of Kiss Goodnight and Everything Tonight, to the song of thanks in the praiseful but cruelly twisted lines of Daddy’s Song, he has simplistically crafted songs that resonate with a diversity of audiences.
Pete always knew his soul was bound to creating music. From busking on the Streets of Kings Cross to performing to soldiers in war torn Cambodia in the early 90’s, a guitar has always been by his side and song always in his heart. In 2001 he joined country rock band, Dan Brodie and The Broken Arrows which saw him hit nearly every big stage in Australia with 2 national tours, numerous festival appearances including Livid, Homebake and Tamworth, a tour to the US performing at SXSW and an ARIA nomination for Best Debut Artist – Album.
On his departure from The Broken Arrows he travelled to Europe, spending the most part of 2005 writing music and discovering his roots, before returning home to Melbourne to start work on his album. He recruited his friends to help him on his new musical journey and aptly entitled the band, The Paesanos. Their efforts have helped spawn the birth of Pete’s debut solo album, Six String Suicide.
Pete Ross and his Paesanos have been performing on the Melbourne pub scene for the last 2 years with highlights including, High Vibes Day at the Darebin Festival, The Stringy Bark Festival and a recent trip to the Tamworth Country Music Festival which saw him pickup the Aristocrat Country Entertainer of the Year runner up prize as well as being a finalist at the 42nd annual CCMA songwriting awards. Mid 2008 will see Pete head off to the USA and Europe for further promotion and touring.
