About Me

Born in the Washington D.C area and raised in Northern Virginia. First heard music a bit like Bluegrass at the Cellar Door in Washington at a performance of "The Star Spangled Washboard Band." Moved on to Colorado where he lived for 10 years. During that time Bob was introduced to Real Bluegrass in Green Mountain Falls. Stumbling upon a new friend while moving he discovered a world that changed his life.
Bob picked up the Mandolin and soon joined in jam sessions at the local pub (The Silver Tongued Devil Saloon!!!). He performed for several years with regionally known groups in Colorado.
In digging into the new found music Bob kind of accidentally landed a volunteer job as host of the Bluegrass Show on KRCC public radio at The Colorado College. After a couple years on the air the station manager commended his success in rising to top rated program on the station.
Now living in Mt. Pleasant, SC, Bob performs with several regional groups. He has a regular Tuesday night gig with Bob Sachs & The Maniax that is great fun and totally spontaneous music. He traveled to New England to perform with Southern Rail for 11 years.
"Bob is an award-winning mandolinist who exhibits absolute authority on his instrument. His playing is aggressive, clean, and lightning-fast. His rich bass vocals are a powerful addition to quartet harmonies."
A veteran musician of over 25 years, Bob has performed and recorded with such folks as Roger Bellow & The Drifting Troubadours, The Blue Dogs , Guitarist David Greer, Mandolinist & Fiddler David Harvey, Singer/Songwriter Carroll Brown , Boston Based Southern Rail , Country Artists Melba Montgomery, David Ball, Red Rector and many others.
After 20 years playing on and off a full time schedule, Bob now has a "day job." Luckily, he still makes plenty of time to perform the music he loves.

Sounds Like:
Sounds Like?!?!?! I've always thought that I wanted to sound like ME! That's what makes musicians worth seeking out and listening to. To me, good musicians have their own "voice." There are influences of course, but other than just for a single fun gig, I'd rather not sound too much like anybody else.
The musical genre may be Bluegrass, Country, Swing, Jazz, Irish, Olde Time, Light Rock, Latin, Gypsy, or whatever, sometimes even a mix, but I love to play with folks who make their own mark on the music!
