Summer Wages

1981-1987

About Me

Summer Wages made their first public appearance on October 24 1981 in South Carolina. The five original members were Rick Allred, Barry Berrier, Kenneth Berrier, Craig Smith and Mitchell Freeman. After a few months, Mitchell decided to leave the group and was replaced by Garland Carter.During the spring & summer months, they worked nearly all of the major bluegrass festivals of that era. In the winter months they could be seen playing everything from small 'school house' shows all over the eastern half of the U.S. and Canada to premier music venues like The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. Summer Wages was a very popular opening band for legendary groups in bluegrass music like Bill Monroe and The Bluegrass Album Band.Summer Wages recorded their first LP in 1983 for Rebel Records. They went on to record a total of 3 albums for Rebel before calling it quits in 1987.Summer Wages Discography"Summer Wages" Rebel REB-1617Recorded June 24-25 1983 Bias Studios Springfield, VA.Barry Berrier Guitar/Lead & Harmony Vocals Rick Allred Mandolin/Baritone Vocals Garland Carter Bass/Tenor & Lead Vocals Kenneth Berrier Rigaud Resophonic Guitar Craig A.
