About Me

WHAT IS CATHARSIS? Catharsis - this is the major music project by 21-year-old Patrick Cernoch.
WHO IS CATAHRSIS? Catharsis is – at the moment – Patrick on the piano. He grew up in the northern area near Zurich, Switzerland. His first musical experience was at the age of two, when he ‘played’ the piano sitting on his mother’s lap. His mother – a teacher – used to play the piano, too, so Patrick grew up with piano music by his mother, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra and Carlos Santana.
WHAT ABOUT MUSICAL EDUCATION? At the age of six, Patrick decided to take piano lessons at primary school’s music school. There, he was taught by the famous piano teacher Jean-Charles Reber, who plays the piano, percussions, bass guitar and acoustic guitar himself. After 12 years, Patrick had to stop his musical education because he graduated. Since then, he has never stopped playing the piano at home
WHAT ABOUT CONCERT EXPERIENCES? In 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 Patrick played as one of different other musicians a couple of songs at the music school’s annually concert in front of dozens of audience members. In 2000, he joined the music school’s band and performed several concerts including a benefit concert at a shopping mall with over 500 audience members. 2000 till 2005 Patrick has given many concert with the music school’s band around Zurich which have been heard by over 2 000 people.
Some personal questions to Patrick Cernoch:
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU MAKE? I – surprise, surprise – play the piano. I’d like to sing, too, but I’m a horrible singer, honestly. So, I’m not a usual mainstream singer/songwriter. Maybe a pianist/songwriter or a daydreamer/pianist. It’s your choice. My music means a lot to me. It’s the perfect way to express my feelings and it just feels good to play. It’s the compensation of every day life’s stress – mental hygiene. So most of my songs have a touch of sadness, melancholy and bitter-sweet heaviness. If you wanted to categorize me in a music genre, you fail. My music is a mix of pop, jazz, ambient, chill out and trip hop (if I had a drummer …). But first of all: it’s personal.
WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL PLANS? I’d love to play with a female singer/songwriter like Sara Bareilles, Norah Jones, Diana Krall or Alison Sudol. But that’s just a reverie. I think that my piano music would be perfect for a female, melancholic voice. At the moment, I haven’t any music project, any concerts or performances because I’m at the premedical period. But a drummer and a cute girl who can sing – that would be perfect ;-)
WHERE DID YOU RECORD YOUR SONGS? I don’t think that you want to know that. To be honest, I recorded all songs at my parent’s place (they have a wonderful black piano at the living room). That’s all you need to know –all the rest is too embarrassing.
HOW CAN YOU BE CONTACTED? Write me an email (preferentially in english or german) to [email protected]. There you will get any further information about me and my music. Use this email address for bookings and feedbacks, too.
