Facts first: the five Redwood members have been rocking stages since 1998. The scene has labeled them"Indierock", yet the quintet led by the charismatic Lesley Meguid have managed to combine zeitgeist and timeless rock. Making music that's tough but within reach, vivacious and melodic. Redwood's charm lies in the mix, unconcerned with the trendster's opinion nor to whom they might appeal. They quickly made a name for themselves as an excellent live band, this delaying an album release. As the only unsigned band invited to the Sound Arena Festival in Wohlen, Switzerland, they took the audiences' hearts by storm. In 2000 Redwood even managed to organize a club tour through the USA, a trip that would take them up and down both coasts and all the way to Austin,Texas. Their debut "everythingunderthesun" finally hit the stores in spring 2004. The fans loved the absolutely un-swiss rock mix, the press praised Lesley Meguid's versatile voice. Redwood's music speaks for itself, a concoction of the band's personal tastes. Everything a rock and pop loving heart desires, fast rock and roll, juicy metal guitars within hooky pop songs.
The same goes for their second album "Best Laid Plans", which they recorded in collaboration with experienced producer Andre Horstmann in the German Black Forest."He already produced our first album and knows exactly how we work best", says Meguid, the singer with egyptian-american roots."We feel very comfortable around him. Why should we work with someone else?" "Best Laid Plans" could be called a succesful continuation of the tried and true, but the band's sound has matured, therefore sounding more experienced and at ease. With rather personal lyrics on Meguid's behalf, the music however is the result of a collaboration between five people who see themselves as a collective and compose accordingly. After touring all through 2006 with their current album "Best Laid Plans", sharing the stages with Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Deftones, Tool, Manu Chao and even Simple Minds to name a few, the band has grown yet another inch and is now back in their rehearsal space, working on new material for the masses..
A new year is soon approaching, and with it a new album. The four lads with the lovely lady are currently working on a very colourful record to be released in September 2007. An album with fire, light, tears and pain is to be expected.. Stay tuned!
